Exactly who will benefit from the “immigration integration” in the Schumer-Rubio bill?

National Review Online: At the press conference introducing their bill, the Gang of Eight evoked the spirit of Ted Kennedy. But the 24 pages of the 844-page bill (pages 370–94) dealing with “immigrant integration” stand as a rousing tribute to Saul Alinsky. If this bill becomes law, you can be sure, as night follows day, that federal dollars will pour into radical left-wing activist groups to promote “immigrant integration.”

On the surface, the bill’s provisions to “integrate” newcomers appear reasonable enough. Various projects are established to foster the “linguistic, economic, and civic integration of immigrants.” A public-private partnership is created; a pilot project is launched to provide funds to states, localities, and nonprofit organizations; and grants are awarded for the purpose of assisting “aliens who are preparing an initial application for registered provisional immigrant status” (i.e., legalization) and “legal permanent residents seeking to become naturalized United States Citizens.”

How will the “immigrant integration” section of the Schumer-Rubio bill work in practice? Let us examine how “immigrant integration” currently works in two states: Illinois and Maryland.

Illinois:
The State of Illinois established a Governor’s Office of New Americans (GONA) in 2006. The director of GONA declared, “Immigrant integration in the State of Illinois is made possible through our Strategic partnerships with community based organizations, local governments,” and various state agencies. GONA’s website specifically highlighted that its “strategic partnership” with the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) receives “national recognition.” The ICIRR will undoubtedly become a major beneficiary of the Schumer-Rubio proposal.

The major figure behind the ICIRR is longtime radical activist Joshua Hoyt. Stanley Kurtz in his powerful exposé Radical-in-Chief noted that Hoyt collaborated with Barak Obama and former terrorist Bill Ayers on issues related to the Woods Fund of Chicago, as it dispensed funds to radical groups such as ACORN. Hoyt was associated with the original Saul Alinsky front group, the Industrial Areas Foundation. Under Hoyt’s leadership, the ICIRR led successful campaigns to gain state support for illegal immigrants’ access to in-state college tuition, preschool, and health benefits, and secured recognition for foreign-consular (matricula consular) identity cards. Hoyt and ICIRR also supported Islamic groups that were resisting law-enforcement examinations of suspicious Muslim charities, and they worked with others to pass an Illinois law mandating that detainees for immigration violations have access to “religious counseling” (often from radical imams.)

On July 8, 2012, the ICIRR hosted “Electoral Organizing training designed for people who are planning to run electoral or issue campaigns in 2012.” Participating in the ICIRR’s electoral training was a close ally (listed on the ICIRR letterhead as an affiliated organization): the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC). This group works closely with the Islamist (and Muslim Brotherhood–aligned) Islamic Council of North America. The CIOGC, along with the ICIRR, as well as the radical Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, which is another official “strategic partner” of the Governor’s Office of New Americans, will clearly play important roles in any “immigrant integration” in Illinois.

Maryland:
At the center of immigrant integration is CASA de Maryland (originally Central American Solidarity Association) and its executive director, Gustavo Torres. CASA has tremendous influence in state politics both with the legislature and with Governor Martin O’Malley. Torres was co-chair of O’Malley’s transition team. He is a key member of the Maryland Council for New Americans, which advises O’Malley, and he chairs its working group on citizenship issues.

Torres left his native Colombia to support the Sandinista revolution in Nicaragua in the 1980s. According to the Washington Post, he was a Sandinista journalist who met his first wife, an American Sandinista sympathizer and “advocate for reproductive health,” in Nicaragua. The Sandinistas, it is worth remembering, were officially Marxist-Leninists — that is to say, Communists. In other words, during the Cold War struggle against Communism, Gustavo Torres of CASA de Maryland was not on the side of the free world, and he continues to this day to be a critic of Reagan’s anti-Communist policies.

Torres became executive director of CASA in 1993 and a U.S. citizen in 1995. In 2007 he spoke at a Chávez-funded conference in Venezuela on “revolution” in Latin America. Shortly thereafter, from 2008 to 2010, CASA received $1.5 million in funding from the Chávez regime. Besides Chávez, CASA’s funders include the Maryland state government, the U.S. government, the Ford Foundation, and George Soros’s Open Society Institute.

CASA’s major activities consist of opposing federal, state, and local enforcement of immigration laws. Representative Dana Rohrabacher (R., Calif.) has charged CASA with “aiding and abetting criminal activity” by teaching illegal immigrants “how to circumvent the law.” On May Day in 2008, CASA organized a demonstration that included contingents from the American Communist Party and the Socialist Workers Party. Not surprisingly, CASA and Torres are strong supporters of the “Cuban Five,” five Castro spies convicted by the American government, whose cause has become trendy for the international Left.

We can be sure that “immigrant integration” will work in the Senate bill the same way it currently works in the states. The left-wing groups that will benefit from the “Alinsky” section of the Schumer-Rubio bill include the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the Service Employees International Union, La Raza, the Asian Law Caucus, the National Immigration Law Center, CASA, the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition, and various organizations supported by Islamists and the Muslim Brotherhood. National Review readers have been alerted to the activities of these groups particularly through the writings of Stanley Kurtz, as well as David Horowitz and Jacob Laksin, co-authors of The New Leviathan.

As Lenin used to say, Cui bono? Who benefits? So who benefits from pages 370–94 of the Schumer-Rubio bill? Schumer knows. Does Rubio?

Monica Novoa, 20, has been with CAUSA for three years and helped push for the new program. Her family left El Salvador in 1982, when federal troops were targeting teachers and other intellectuals for intimidation and slaughter.  Novoa said her father was a teacher and a leftist. When she was 3, coyotes--guides for undocumented immigrants--took the family through Guatemala, Mexico and a torn border fence into California.

Once he arrived in the United States, her father went to school to become an electrician. Her mother got into the real estate business. But like Barrios' parents, Novoa's family rarely discussed their experiences in El Salvador.

"Most of what I knew about El Salvador was from the popular music that I listened to," she said. "One of my favorite lines is from a Victor Jara song where he's saying: 'If the hands that work the soil are the people's, then why doesn't the harvest belong to those who work the land?' "

Insurgency in America? Former Border Agent Details National Security Threats Spilling Into the U.S.

Former Border Patrol Agent Zachary Taylor told The Blaze just how grave the threat really is.

Taylor broke down the imminent dangers and expanded upon the case that the U.S.-Mexico border has become the soft underbelly of U.S homeland defense.

It’s not just an immigration problem, Taylor insisted, but also a major national security vulnerability.

A former US Border Patrol Agent himself, Taylor says all these threat have been exacerbated by current Obama administration policies and deliberate distortions in much of the media.

To understand the scope of the problem, Taylor first wants the public to recognize that the dominant media narrative is intentionally false. As a former and longtime Border Patrol Agent, Taylor balked at the notion that illegal immigration is simply a function of people seeking a better life.

He feels there’s a lot of nefarious activity that goes unaddressed, and said “The main problem is that the American press is working in conjunction with the administration to keep the facts about what is happening in Mexico and Central America a secret. They are hiding it in plain sight, deception I would call it.”

Taylor continued “Our institutions have been corrupted, the 4th estate has been corrupted. It is a tool of disinformation… A psychological warfare operation being waged against the American people using things to deflect their attention.”

According to Taylor, many of the people coming across the border are entering America illegally with the intention of doing real harm. They are coming with drugs, guns and inflicting violence, or are part of elaborate human smuggling networks with direct ties to the vast criminal cartels. The appeals to human compassion and “America is a nation of immigrants” meme ignores this very real and growing threat to the United States.

Which brought our discussion to the vicious and powerful Mexican drug cartels.

Taylor made it clear that there is no level of violent depravity or government corruption outside the ability of the cartels. The Sinaloa, the Zetas, and others narco-insurgents are engaged in beheadings, mutilations, sexual assaults, and videotaped torture campaigns similar to what most people associate with Al Qaeda.

“I have never seen this level of terrorist messaging” Taylor said, referencing the brazen brutality of the criminal syndicates. Taylor provided The Blaze with slideshows that depict unspeakable cruelty– true evil– that has become the calling card of the cartels. Vans full of headless and dismembered bodies, human carcasses strewn about the side of a desert road— all of it intended to strike terror in the hearts of Americans as well as Mexicans.

Taylor believes the cartel campaigns are not limited to the nuts and bolts of the drug trade. He told The Blaze that he feels the cartels want to have a hand in Mexican national elections and hope to help bring about a sympathetic leftist government to power.

The approximately 45,000 casualties of the drug war so far have been largely a response to Mexican President Calderon’s attempts to crack down on the cartels. If the drug barons were able to help install a leftist, anti-American government that would turn a blind eye to the drug trade, it would be a huge victory for the narco-traffickers. And a huge problem for the United States.

“Mexico has an insurgency on its hands– that is exactly what the problem is— and america will have the same problem as it makes it easier to get across the border,” Taylor said.

But Taylor brought some outside elements into his analysis. He stated that drug cartel activity and terrorist activity are both transnational in nature, which means groups from around the world have become involved.

In this case, that means the Shia militant group Hezbollah

Taylor said that Hezbollah is allying with the drug and alien smuggling operations at the border to help finance their operations in the Middle East. And in the event of hostilities with Hezbollah’s benefactor– Iran– Taylor is concerned that the cartel smuggling networks could help make America’s WMD nightmare come true.

“Get them close enough and effective enough, they [Hezbollah] could smuggle a Weapon of Mass Destruction into the United States.”

For those who would say the threat of a WMD smuggled into the U.S. is hyped or remote, Taylor points to a YouTube video from 2009 in which Muslim cleric Abdullah al-Nafisi talked about bringing 4 lbs of anthrax into the U.S. that he gleefully claimed would kill 330,000 people. Faced with all these threats, the federal government has refused to send enough resources in Taylor’s view. On the contrary, Taylor believes the Obama administration is engaged in efforts to bureaucratically subvert border security for political gain.

When the subject turned to the brave efforts of our border agents, Taylor painted a picture of an undermanned, outgunned, and bureaucratically hobbled federal Border Patrol force. He shared a number of disheartening anecdotes and cases that showed U.S. border efforts are not only insufficient– decisions are being made at the top of the federal government to make border enforcement more difficult.

Those policy decisions can and do have lethal consequences. In the infamous killing of former Marine and Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, operational guidelines ordered that non-lethal force was the preferred first option of defense. This ignored the fact that there had already been several attempts to shoot Border Patrol agents in the same area with high-powered rifles.

In 2009, almost exactly one year before Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was killed by border bandits, another group of BP officers were on ATVs near ramanote canyon in Arizona. Armed smugglers opened fire on the agents, wounding one agent in the ankle/foot area, but the other agent was able to withdraw.

The smugglers, however, did not retreat, despite the fact that other border patrol agents came into the area to assists. Taylor said “not only will they [bandits] open fire on Border Patrol, they will advance on them in an attack.”

A helicopter arrived on the scene, according to Taylor, but shockingly, the helo crews were prohibited from exfiltrating the wounded agent. Instead, the Border Patrol brought in a horse to carry the agent out of the area to a waiting helicopter because of DHS protocol for the area.

It took 4 1/2 hours from the time of the engagement until the medical evacuation was completed. This was all due, as Taylor put it, to DHS policy with no basis in anything other than slowing down enforcement efforts and endangering Border agents.

Taylor also said the Department of Homeland Security did away with CAS (Close Air Support) helicopters in December 2011 even though light observation helicopters with a FLEER-mounted surveillance system “almost guarantees you will catch your quarry.”

Taylor doesn’t mince words about this. He believes the removal of the choppers is an attempt to intentionally hamper the effectiveness of border operations.

The federal government is ”killing the operation through policy and how they deploy assets… it’s about spending money and making the show, not about effectiveness.”

Currently, there are even federal agency turf wars making enforcement more difficult. Border Patrol Agents are not allowed to enter or pursue on federal wildlife refuges without permission. As some of these preserves– which fall under the Department of the Interior– can stretch for nearly a hundred miles from the border, they are basically a smuggler’s paradise.

There is a House of Representative Bill that would give agents unfettered access to anywhere within 100 miles of the border, but the mere fact that this legislation is needed speaks volumes about the present state of border security, as Taylor put it.

There can also be clear politics at play in how Border Patrol cases are handed. Agent Jesus Diaz was found not guilty of excessive force by two different internal review boards, but the US Attorney’s Office interceded and successfully prosecuted the agent.

Taylor said that the federal court did not all any background into the trial of Agent Diaz, and the words of four inexperience agents who allegedly failed to follow standard operating procedures were used against him in court. Apparently, the inexperienced agents caught part of a drug smuggling group– the leader of which was only 15 years old, and failed to secure the suspects.

When Diaz arrived, there were still armed drug smugglers in the brush nearby but the agents had not yet handcuffed the ones in custody. Diaz claimed he took over, handcuffed the suspects, and during the interrogation to find out about other armed criminal nearby, lifted the handcuffs of at least one suspect.

For this offense, Diaz was charged with excessive force and faces federal prison time. In addition, Taylor said it has come to light that all four of the rookie border patrol agents who testified against Diaz have since washed out of the agency.

As if the southern border were not enough, there are problems at the northern U.S. border as well. Taylor claims that the Obama Administration is intentionally making it easier to illegally cross the northern border through bureaucratic inefficiency. The National Forest Service does not allow unfettered access to Border Agents, and DHS is ceasing many transportation checkpoint along the border with Canada.

For Taylor, all of this adds up to a situation that gravely threatens U.S. national security and endangers Americans.

Asked how this state of affairs could continue, or even be allowed to worse, Taylor summarized his case bluntly.

“This administration is trying to facilitate the entry of illegal aliens into the United States.”

The Blaze

What we must ask ourselves is… If one crazy person, like a Hannibal Lector type serial killer, was doing this in our country…  we would be organizing a huge unrelenting man-hunt, so why is our government hiding this information, classifying the documents of the same type of events happening on the U.S. side or the border, and blocking the news coverage?  Why was the DOJ involved in Fast and Furious… with knowledge (and no-doubt approval) up to the Attorney Holder and even the White House.

This lack of action and cover-ups goes back to the Bush Administration but has gotten much much worse under the present administration.

The disgusting mishandled Fast and Furious Gun Running Program that Eric Holder has created a circus over by withholding facts and paperwork from the Congress and special investigation committee feeds into the lies and cover-up being enacted by the U.S. Government against the American and Mexican people.

Facts:

Extreme violence, drug cartels, human trafficking, and terrorism is being enacted in on the U.S.-Mexican border.

Hezbollah and Hamas are using the Mexican border as a staging area.

Enemies are coming across the Mexican Border in Droves.  59,000 OTM’s have been captured… We only capture about 1 out of 10 or less of those who cross.  Islamic prayer rugs have been found as well as manuals on terrorism.

Fires are being deliberately set on the border… believed as diversions or cover-ups.  One of the large ones was set where the Fast and Furious conspiracies was enacted.

The Northern border is even more accessible than the Southern Border; nobody is watching it and they plan to pull the few agents they have there off… yet how easy would it be for an Islamic Terrorist to enter from Canada into Michigan and blend in to the huge Muslim population in that state?

Zach Taylor, Head of the Association of Former Border Agents, is risking his life to get this information out because it is crucial to the future of America.  He said be wary of any candidate who talks about amnesty (no matter what they call it) and social justice. (The two toughest candidate for president on securing the border are Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum).

Glenn Beck said, “Do what you want with this info, but when he worked at both CNN and FOX, they would not give him the resources to properly research and cover this for this TV programs.  Think about it…

Glenn asked Zach Taylor what Americans can do to help and get help for the border agents and themselves… since many law enforcement groups find their hands tied… and at the higher levels are part of the problem.  Taylor said that the problem and authority is with the administration, DHS and the DOJ, but the funding is with the legislature.  Get to the legislators and speak with your votes in November.  We need change in the White House and 90% of the people in Congress need to be changed!

John Boehner to halt Fast and Furious investigation, sell out to Eric Holder and White House  -  This is frightening!!

Congressman John Boehner, the House Speaker better known for displays of weeping than of courage, is reportedly cutting a deal with Eric Holder which would provide a “mutually satisfactory” outcome in Barack Obama’s criminal, gun running endeavor Operation Fast and Furious.

Months ago, Boehner prevented Darrell Issa filing a charge of perjury against Holder even after documents proved the Attorney General’s May 4th House testimony concerning the date of his first “acquaintance” with Fast and Furious to be an outright lie.

And now the weepy Speaker will OFFICIALLY let the most corrupt Department of Justice head in the nation’s history off the hook for complicity in the Regime’s murderous scheme to savage the 2nd Amendment rights of the American people.

The terms of the betrayal John Boehner is currently putting together:

The Committee will accept the scalps of [Lanny] Breuer and [Jason] Wienstein, DOJ will release enough of the (documents) to condemn them, claim cooperation (thus giving the appearance of recognizing congress’s oversight authority), and Holder will survive – looking like a “leader” for offering them up (along with a few lower level ATF and DOJ folk). The Committee will chalk one in the “Win” column for oversight and holding people accountable. DOJ will have the same for cooperating and accountability. (1)

Lovely, isn’t it! Hundreds are dead, including two American agents. One of those dead, Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was literally set up for murder by an FBI INFORMANT who, on December 14th of 2010, accompanied and LED the drug cartel rip gang responsible for Terry’s death. The other victim, ICE Agent Jaime Zapata was NOT PERMITTED by LAW to even possess a weapon with which he might have defended himself from his killers!

On a beautiful day in sunny Arizona (one of my favorite states), a thin-skinned man-child, who fancies himself king, skipped down the steps of his 747 to meet with Governor Jan Brewer.

Brewer stood toe to toe with Obama and didn’t back down an inch. As I understand it, she gave him a letter welcoming him to the Grand Canyon State, which he disdainfully tossed into his waiting power mobile after barely glancing at it. He let Brewer know just how unhappy he was with her new book “Scorpions for Breakfast: My Fight Against Special Interests, Liberal Media, and Cynical Politicos to Secure America’s Border.” Oh, how appropriate is the title, Jan! Scorpions indeed.

Here’s a bit about the Obama passage in Brewer’s book that has The One so exercised. Our Barack, “condescending” and “patronizing”? Again, go figure:

“It was though President Obama thought he could lecture me, and I would learn at his knee,” the governor wrote, calling his tone “patronizing.”

“He thinks he can humor me and then get rid of me,” Brewer wrote.

Questioned about the different description, the governor said she did not lie.

“I mean, we weren’t yelling at one another, screaming at one another,” she said.

“But it was a pretty one-sided conversation,” Brewer said. “He was, I believe, condescending. And he was lecturing me about what we were going to do and how we were going to do it.”

It sounds … so unlike him.

Right… I think our dear leader needs to go nappy-bye or maybe have a time-out. Someone seems a bit cranky.

The petite blond governor stuck her finger in the Marxist-in-Chief’s chest and informed him that the book was simply the truth. Sucks to be you, huh, Obama? Obama was asked if he read the book and admitted he only read excerpts. But darn it! The excerpts were sorely unflattering and Obama wasn’t going to let Brewer get away without knowing how ‘dissed’ he felt. He then cut her off in mid-sentence, turned his back on her and stomped off. How very presidential.

Asked what aspect of the book disturbed him, Brewer said: “That he didn’t feel that I had treated him cordially. I said I was sorry he felt that way but I didn’t get my sentence finished. Anyway, we’re glad he’s here. I’ll regroup.”…

She said the president brought up the book.

“I thought we probably would’ve talked about the things that were important to him and important to me, helping one another. Our country is upside down. Arizona was upside down. But we have turned it around. I know again that he loves this country and I love this country.”…

He appeared to walk away from her while they were still talking, and she confirmed that by saying she didn’t finish her sentence.

Brewer called Obama “patronizing” and “condescending.” I’ll bet – she was way too kind. She left out arrogant, petulant, elitist and a whole list of other adjectives that come to mind. You just know that the book has been eating at him and he planned his attack and timing for maximum effect, thinking he would embarrass the governor. It backfired and Obama came off as a spoiled toddler throwing a tantrum on the tarmac. I’m just thankful his lordship didn’t have Brewer beheaded on the spot. I’m sure he was tempted. Maybe later.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio Runs Again… Support the Posse

Barack Obama's constitutional qualifications for the presidency have never been investigated by any law-enforcement agency. Until now. But that investigation by Sheriff Joe Arpaio's "Cold Case Posse" could easily be derailed for lack of financial support coupled with attacks being launched against his office by Obama's Justice Department. That's why it is imperative for every American who questions the very legality of Obama's reign and his efforts at re-election to support Arpaio's probe in a tangible way – no matter how small. Let me tell you why I think it's important and why I am personally making a donation to this cause. On the very face of it, Obama is not eligible to be president. Every action he has taken under the color of authority as president should be repealed, negated and voided. If we take him at his word and accept at face value the evidence he has provided about his birth, he is simply not a "natural born citizen," as documented in Jerome Corsi's authoritative and best-selling book, "Where's the Birth Certificate?" The man he claims as his father was a Kenyan national visiting student who would have conferred foreign citizenship upon his son. The very purpose and intent of the "natural born citizen" clause of the Constitution's requirements for the presidency was to avoid any such perceptions of divided loyalty. Worse yet, there are very grave doubts about whether his biological father was who he claims. All of Obama's biographical tales about this relationship have been called into question by the actual evidence. Then we have the problem of Obama's apparent adoption by his mother's second husband, Lolo Soetoro, an Indonesian foreign national. Obama's name was changed to Soetoro and he moved to Indonesia with his stepfather, registering for school as an Indonesian citizen. Such an adoption would have required the destruction of the original birth certificate and the issuance of a new one showing Soetoro as Obama's actual birth father. That's the way adoption law works in Hawaii and most other states. So why didn't that take place? Why was his adoption not recorded? And if it was simply never reported to Hawaiian authorities, does it in anyway change the facts? Click here to learn more about how you can help. Then we have the problem of the birth document itself. It was only released last April in response to the impending release of Corsi's devastating book, Where's the Birth Certificate?, which had hit the No. 1 best-seller position. But is it genuine? To date, there is nearly 100 percent agreement among qualified forensics investigators and document experts that it is not. What I am saying might be very shocking. It might even sound a tad bizarre given the fact that the national media treats it as such. But what I have stated here is completely factual and well documented. In other words, the man occupying the White House today and seeking re-election next year is a political enigma, an unknown quantity, completely unvetted and certainly not eligible to serve under the Constitution's simple, straightforward requirements for office. It is into this amazing and dangerous scenario that Sheriff Joe Arpaio fearlessly steps, backed only by his own "Cold Case Posse" of volunteer investigators. They represent what is probably America's last chance to salvage the integrity of the Constitution for all time. Arpaio running again for Maricopa County sheriff

He has toyed with running for governor, publicly speculated about running for U.S. Senate and even mulled whether he had a shot at being president, but Joe Arpaio's campaign says he'll instead once again run for Maricopa County sheriff in the 2012 election.

Arpaio, 79, has come under fierce criticism this past year from state, federal and local officials who have seized on an internal report that again reminded the public of hundreds of sex-crime cases that Arpaio's detectives botched and on U.S. Justice Department findings released last month that accuse Arpaio of running an agency that encourages deputies to discriminate against Latino residents.

Those findings have led some local politicians to call for Arpaio's resignation or consider staging a recall election targeting the sheriff.

But those calls for Arpaio to step down have not translated into opponents willing to tussle with the state's most publicized politician. Only Scottsdale police Lt. Mike Staufer has stepped forward as a candidate willing to take on the five-term sheriff. Stauffer's spokesman said last week that none of the politicians making public calls for Arpaio's resignation has offered to support Stauffer.

Arpaio's campaign manager expects the sheriff to have more than $6 million in campaign funds for the race, but Arpaio will be without the help of former Chief Deputy David Hendershott. Hendershott was the architect of many of Arpaio's prior campaigns but was fired from the Sheriff's Office last year.

DOJ Deflects Gunrunner, Fast and Furious Blame to Local Officials… Yet the Leaking Facts Show the Opposite!

President Obama’s Justice Department is trying to deflect responsibility over decisions in the Project Gunrunner and Operation Fast and Furious investigations, which are being spearheaded by House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa, California Republican, and Sen. Chuck Grassley, Iowa Republican. Last Wednesday, Issa released new Project Gunrunner documents,including an approved wiretap application bearing Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer’s name. Though Breuer didn’t sign it, his Deputy Assistant Attorney General (DAAG), Kenneth Blanc, did.

Now the DOJ says Blanc’s signature and Breuer’s name doesn’t imply any federal-level responsibility. Justice Department spokeswoman Tracy Schmaler told The Daily Caller that the Obama administration’s DOJ officials routinely approve thousands of wiretap applications without knowing the specifics of the cases they’re signing off on.

“The review process for wiretap applications is a narrow assessment of whether a legal basis exists to support a surveillance request that ultimately goes before a judge for decision,” Schmaler said in an email. “These reviews are not approval of the underlying investigations or operations.”

House Oversight Committee spokesman Frederick Hill told TheDC he thinks it’s disturbing that the DOJ is routinely approving wiretap applications like this one. “The assertion that the Justice Department has a robo-signing process for wiretap applications is a deeply troubling defense,” Hill said in an email. “Applications for wiretaps generally include detailed descriptions of law enforcement activities, sworn statements and explanations for why invasive wiretaps are crucial to an investigation. Claiming ignorance on an operation where wiretaps were approved by high level officials raises even more concerns about irresponsible and reckless decisions by Justice officials that contributed to the deaths of two federal agents.”

Former federal prosecutor and Foundation for the Defense of Democracies Center for Law and Counterterrorism co-chair Andrew McCarthy told TheDC Schmaler is right in that Justice Department officials don’t have time to review facts and details of every wiretap application they sign. But, McCarthy said, that doesn’t absolve top officials of responsibility when something goes awry.

“Nobody would expect the Deputy Attorney General to know the details like the prosecutor on the case, but if your name is on something and it’s a screw-up, you’re going to end up being responsible for it not in the sense that anyone expects you to know all the facts, but if you’ve been relying on someone who isn’t doing a good job to vet these things, then that is your responsibility,” McCarthy said. “The reason that Congress put this requirement in the statute is because they wanted Justice Department oversight on the district offices because wiretaps are so invasive.”

Schmaler said the applications still have to go before a judge for final approval. But, Schmaler shifts any DOJ responsibility down the chain to local officials, even though Obama’s politically appointed U.S. attorney Dennis Burke, who oversees the U.S. Attorney’s Arizona District, has made decisions on the gun “walking” programs, along with several local officials. “As the department has stated, the Fast and Furious operation was approved by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona and the ATF Phoenix Field Office,” Schmaler told TheDC. “The investigation was subsequently approved by the multi-agency Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Program.”

The approved wiretap application bearing Breuer’s name and Blanc’s signature was one of three documents Issa released Wednesday. It’s a part of investigations he and Grassley conducting on the Project Gunrunner and Operation Fast and Furious programs from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Through Project Gunrunner and Operation Fast and Furious, ATF essentially allowed American guns to be “walked,” or trafficked via “straw purchasers,” into Mexico. The guns then ended up in the hands of Mexican drug cartels and, apparently, the programs’ ultimate goal was to track the larger weapons trafficking market.

Another twist in the storyline is that two dead Border Patrol agents were likely shot with weapons ATF allowed into Mexican drug cartels’ hands. Justice officials were tracking two AK47s found at the scene of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry’s death. Federal officials charged three Mexican nationals with Terry’s murder late last week, but Issa said the good news doesn’t lift Attorney General Eric Holder and the rest of the DOJ off the hook.

“The Justice Department hasn’t said how and why guns purportedly being tracked and monitored by federal law enforcement officials as part of Operation Fast and Furious ended up in the hands of Agent Terry’s killers,” Issa said in a statement. “It angers me to think that this death might not have occurred had it not been for reckless decisions made by officials at the Department of Justice who authorized and supported an operation that knowingly put guns in the hands of criminals. For these officials to imagine that this operation would result in anything other than a tragic outcome was naive and negligent.”

Update: A procedural note about H.R. 5281 and the DREAM Act

There is a bit of confusion on the Internet that needs to be cleared up about the Democrats’ plans for the DREAM Act.

A number of readers have pointed to a weekend post at FreeRepublic.com warning that the DREAM Act is “hidden” in another bill, H.R. 5281.

Senate staff explained to me today that DREAM was passed as an amendment to HR 5281 in the House and it was sent over as a “message,” which gave it privileged status so the Senate didn’t have to vote on a motion to proceed (simply a cloture vote). My Senate staff source added that it essentially gave the Democrats an avenue to bypass a procedural hurdle in the Senate, but since the Senate failed to proceed to the 3rd amendment (the DREAM Act), it is dead and HR 5281 does not include it.

All that said, as you know from my longtime coverage of the open-borders lobby, they never give up.

So while the Senate cloture vote on Saturday killed the stand-alone DREAM Act yet again, no doubt it will be back in some form or another. As I pointed out over the weekend, Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell’s troubling remark that the illegal alien student bailout “should be dealt with next year” opens the door for a Republican version of the bill that forced retiree Utah Sen. Bob Bennetttelegraphed last week.

Remember: There are soft-on-illegal-immigration radicals in both parties. Whatever election-year lip service they might pay to border enforcement, none can be trusted to do the right thing without your constant bucking up.

The protestors at Montebello High School took the American flag off the school's flag pole and hung it upside down while putting up the Mexican flag over it.  (*See pictures below*)

I predict this stunt will be the nail in the coffin of any guest-worker/ amnesty plan on the table in Washington ... The image of the American flag subsumed to another and turned upside down on American soil is already spreading on Internet forums and via e-mail.

Pass this along to every American citizen in your address books and to every representative in the state and federal government.. If you choose to remain uninvolved, do not be amazed when  you no longer have a nation to call your own nor anything you have worked for left since it will be 'redistributed' to the activists while you are so peacefully staying out of the 'fray'. Check history, it is full of nations/empires that disappeared when its citizens no longer held their core beliefs and values. One person CAN make a difference....

IF IT DOESN'T IT SHOULD!

I was not born in this Country.  I came to America before my second birthday with my parents who waited on a list for seven years in war torn Europe until they received the legal okay and papers to come here, to America, just like millions of other immigrants have done.  Included in the requirements for us to come to the U.S. was that we had sponsors, people in the U.S. who vouched to be responsible for us to get settled and if we fell on hard times for 7-years, which was the first date that you could apply for citizenship. There was no such thing as free public services for new immigrants and they would have been too proud to ask.

My parents tried to learn rudimentary English before they left and immediately enrolled in night school at Burbank High School (in California) within weeks of arriving.  Their class was filled with new (legal) immigrants from all over the world, many of whom remained their friends for life. There were no illegal immigrants to speak of in those days, because you would have been deported when caught and reported by anyone who knew.

My father worked 3-jobs to get ahead and lucky for us and all immigrants until the progressives started pushing their “keep them down” tactics under the guise of social justice, there were no forms printed in foreign languages, no 24/4 foreign TV shows and no interpreters for anyone who chose not to learn English.  My parent’s interpreter was me; a talkative out-going 3-year-old who could speak German and English better than the folks, because kids, if not held back, absorb a new language quickly, like little sponges.  In addition to class, my parents and I learned English from watching TV in English and mingling with neighbors.  And although German was spoken at home, we only spoke English outside and our parents were adamant that their children be fluent and that they assimilate and become Americans.  If we retained our ancestral language and some traditions it was gravy.

And all this is what is not happening:  We are not enforcing our laws or securing our borders; immigrants are not assimilating; we are no insisting that everyone learn English or the problem is theirs; we have been programmed to be politically correct instead of honest; and we have been programmed by the slow creeping underground movement of Progressivism to allow our Country to be transformed, ourselves and the future of our children to be undermined, our Country to be infiltrated and devalued and the people who come here (both legally and illegally) to be cheated of the true American experience and to be transferred to a new type of both economic enslavement and social disenfranchisement to be controlled by the progressives for votes and low end work… as they outwardly preach solidarity.

I have a good friend, of Mexican ancestry, who teaches night school at junior college, after having retired from his profession as an engineer.  He speaks fluent English and Spanish and is often addressed in class in Spanish.  He is polite the first time, but after class he pulls those students aside.  He tells them that he is happy to chat after class in Spanish but that in class he must insist that every one speak English because: it is rude to speak another language in front of a primarily English speaking class; that this is America and English is our language; and that for the Spanish speaking student’s sake the best advice he can give them is to assimilate and learn English or they will always be the bus boy instead of the waiter… the waiter instead of the owner. He said to me once, “You know when I was a kid, Mexicans were white… just like Italians or other ethnicities with olive skin.  Somewhere along the way someone realized that by creating a Hispanic Community to market to that they could either create a whole new market to sell to and take their money, a new political group so they could divide us… or both.  And they have!  If I can help them understand that, I have done much more valuable than teach them some advanced math.”

No immigrant that comes to America for the right reasons would do or allow their children to act this way, like the kids at Montebello High School.  As an immigrant… I am appalled and so should you be!!  Stand up America, this is wrong!
