TO ALL SENATORS:

The People have spoken JUST SAY NO to talks or at least the onset of negotiations until the existing bills for government takeover of healthcare are scrapped!!!!!

You may have to attend the meeting and bring your ideas, but you need to stand your ground and insist the process starts from scratch. Perhaps bringing along piles of letters like these will help Obama see that as usual, he has misread the will of the people??

The majority of Americans want nothing to do with the government takeover of healthcare, commonly known as ObamaCare!!!

We want sensible bipartisan corrections to our present system of healthcare. We do not want a government takeover and creation of an entire new system.

Most Americans ‘want’:

All the bills floating around, passed or not, by the House or Senate involving or related to HC scrapped. They also want hidden provisions for the bills that were hidden in other legislation reversed.

(a.) Comprehensive Tort Reform

(b.) Portable Health Insurance allowing all HC insurance companies to be sell in all 50-states and all Americans to be able to shop around and purchase insurance from any of those companies.

(c.) A stop to exclusion for previous conditions by insurance companies.

(d.) An investigation and serious overall to stop fraud and waste by insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid and Veterans and Reservation Health Services.

(e.) Natural, holistic and alternative procedures and meds to be included in the system (which are generally cheaper and often times a long term solution).

(f.) Other logical non-freedom stealing or non-government involved related programs, revisions and common sense reform that we elect and trust you to give us.

(g.) A simplified overhaul of the system we have that is overhauled in a transparent way and posted online for everyone to read, at every phase, for a minimum of 5-days before a vote.

Most Americans ‘do not want’:

(a.) Government controlled or government run healthcare in any form or version over and above what we already have in the programs mentioned above in (d.)

(b.) Major reductions in healthcare services for seniors

(c.) A centralized medical record database of health records that are either controlled by or the federal government has access to.

(d.) Illegal aliens covered by any government programs or funds other than true necessary emergency room services.

(e.) Any special deals, especially for Andy Stern and the unions.

***We also do not want: the government telling us, our doctors or our families which services we may have and when we are too old to have them. We do not want the government having access to our medical records, financial records or our bank accounts. We do not want our records put on RFID chips that are injected into us. We do not want government representatives having the right to show up at our homes and intercede with the way we raise our children to any greater extent than they already are for emergency situations. In fact we do not want most of the things that are or have been written into the various ObamaCare Bills.

The majority of Americans want you to stand up for us against the Progressives in Congress and in the White House and stop this takeover of American Healthcare and we in turn will support you for re-election.

Please do not fall into the trap that is being set for you by Obama/Reid/Pelosi. After all the secretive deals and negotiations plus the total lack of transparency to develop bills they cannot pass with their supermajority they now intend to feature you as obstructionists and the party of NO.

BUT ‘JUST SAYING NO’ TO BIPARTISAN NEGOTIATIONS UNTIL THE OBAMACARE BILLS ARE SCRAPED IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO AND WHAT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WANT YOU TO DO!!

IF OBAMA REALLY CARED ABOUT THIS COUNTRY HE WOULD BE FOCUSING ON JOBS, STARTING OVER ON HEALTHCARE REFROM WITHOUT BEING ASKED, ABANDONING CAP AND TRADE AND GETTING SOME REAL ADVICE ON FOREIGN POLICY.

MOST PEOPLE FEEL OBAMA’S GOAL IS TO DESTROY AMERICA AND I WOULD HOPE THAT YOU REALIZE THIS BY NOW, OR AT LEAST CONSIDER IT.

Obama cannot be trusted; he is just doing this upcoming meeting for show. He does not respect you the GOP and non-progressive sensible moderate Democrats and Independents or the American people… especially the American People.

(Rush was musing about the same thing this morning)

RUSH: "Barack Obama says he doesn't want to make the same mistake with his grandmother that he made with his dying mother," so today he's jetting off to Hawaii to make sure that doesn't happen.  He was on The Early Show this morning with Harry Smith, and Smith said, "Lincoln said, 'All I ever hoped to be, I owe to her,' in speaking about his mother.  Your grandmother, very much like a mother to you, how important is this trip?"

OBAMA:  It's very important to me.  My grandmother is the last one left, uh, she has really been the rock of the family and the foundation of the family, uh, whatever strength, discipline, uh, that I have, uh, it comes from her.

SMITH:  You said in the past that you regretted your own mother's illness and her death came so quickly, you didn't have time to get back to --

RUSH:  Stop the tape here a minute.  Stop, recue this.  Harry Smith is doing everything here but crying, everything but crying here.  This is an embarrassment.  You people in the media, you don't even care how embarrassing this is, you do not even care.  Here it is again from the top.

OBAMA:  It's very important to me.  My grandmother's the last one left, uh --

RUSH:  Right.

OBAMA:  She has really been the rock of the family.

RUSH:  I know.

OBAMA:  And the foundation of the family, uh--

RUSH:  Absolutely right.

OBAMA:  Whatever the strength, discipline, uh --

RUSH:  Hawaii all these years.

OBAMA:  -- that I have, uh, it comes from her.

OBAMA:  Got there too late.  We knew she wasn't doing well, um, but the diagnosis was such where we thought we had a little more time and we didn't, so I want to make sure that I don't, uh, I don't make, uh, the same mistake twice.

RUSH:  Now, Harry Smith is very, very worried, ladies and gentlemen, that this could hurt Obama's campaign.

SMITH:  Some people say there's risk involved in this, with so little time left.

OBAMA:  Yeah.  Well, the, uh, I think most people understand, uh, that if you're not, um, caring for your family, uh, then you're probably not, uh, the kind of person who's going to be caring for other people.

RUSH:  Yeah, right.  Okay.  Now, I have some questions here, ladies and gentlemen.  If Obama has this election in the bag, if he has this election in the bag, which they're all saying, I mean, he's building the stage. They're already putting together this massive little stage out there in Grant Park in Chicago.  They're making all these postelection plans. They're working on the transition team.  If it's in the bag, Obama, please, stop spending money on TV and radio spots.  Stop raising more money.  You already have tons of it.  Stop campaigning all over the country.  You're

 wasting fuel.  You're emitting carbon dioxide along the way.  If it's over, then behave like it's over.  By the way, I'd like to be a little bit more inquisitive than the average reporter out there and observe that we've been hearing and reading for at least three days now that Obama's grandmother is deathly ill and that he's going to rush to her side in Hawaii.  

Now, if he's already won the presidency, why hasn't he already gone to Hawaii?  Why is he not already there?  What's he waiting for?  "If she's deathly ill," I'm pretending to be a reporter here.  You know they'd ask McCain these questions.  "If Obama's grandmother is deathly ill, why has this been announced days ago and he's only going now," or tomorrow, or whenever it is.  Now, I understand, folks, Snerdley's got his head buried in his hands.  I understand this, my friends, anything said about Obama is going to be turned into an unfair racist attack on the man.  Am I not asking obvious questions?  Who announces days in advance they're rushing to the side of a loved one who is deathly ill but keeps campaigning in a race that's said to be over, only to go to the loved one's side days later?  See, I think this is about something else.  You know what's

 really percolating out there?  I've been layin

g low on this because it hasn't met the threshold to  pass the smell test on this program.  

This birth certificate business, this lawsuit that a guy named Philip Berg filed in Philadelphia in August for Obama to produce his genuine birth certificate and he still hasn't replied.  You've got a deathly ill grandmother, you are going to rush to her side a few days from now, when you first announced this, you're going to rush, you're going to hurry, you're going to make tracks, you're going to get over there because you don't want your grandmother to die before you got there like your mother did, but somehow you keep campaigning, you take three days to get over there, if he's left yet, and this birth certificate business, I'm just wondering if something's up.  I have no

 clue, and folks, I'm telling you, this has not reached the threshold until now, and it's popping up

 all over the place.  There are a lot of people now that are starting to speculate and be curious about this.  

I don't know, let's say for example that somebody does come up with proof that something's screwy with his birth certificate and something's screwy about the fact that he's allegedly a natural citizen, American citizen, but may not be, dual citizenship, born in Kenya, who knows, there's all kinds of stuff out -- so what?  What's going to happen this late in the campaign?  Do you think if it's proven that they're going to dump him?  That's not going to happen.  But still, these are just questions that I have.  And, look, both of my parents have died. When I was told the end was near, bam, I got there, fast as I could.  I didn't announce to the audience, "I just got word my father is said to be passing away and in four or five days I'm going to go to Missouri.

  In the meantime, I will not leave you here on this radio program."  These are just natural

 questions.  I think any inquisitive reporter -- I know the risk I'm running here by raising all this.  But I wouldn't be me if I didn't do that.

RUSH:  Okay.  "If you're not caring for your family..."  How about George Onyango Bodongo Hussein Obama in the hut outside Nairobi living on a dollar a month?  A $20 bill would double his half-brother's annual income.  Not even a sign "Home, Sweet Hut" has been sent to George Onyango Bodongo Hussein Obama, and how many other of Obama's family members are living in squalor?  Yeah, "if you don't take care of your family, if you don't put that first, you're probably not the kind of person that's going to be caring for other people."  You have a half-

Below is a photo of the Certification of Live Birth produced by the Obama campaign in 2007 when the issue of Barrack's birth and qualification to run for president first arose plus a vault copy from the State of Hawaii from that era.

However, the 2007 document produced by the Obama campaign omits key information that normally appears on birth certificates in the United States, including the name of the hospital where he was born, the size and weight of the baby, and sometimes the name of the doctor who delivered him.

In addition, the critics of the 2007 document note that Obama's father is described as “African,” a term used today. The formal language in official documents at the time — 1961 — would have identified his race as “Negro” or “Colored.”

Also if you notice at the bottom this form, it was revised in November 2001 and issued in 2007, so there is a lot of room for question and changes.

The Constitution provides that any U.S. citizen is eligible to become president if the person is 35 years of age or older and is a natural-born citizen; that is, born in the territorial United States. (which includes military bases, embassies, and a few other such exceptions that are considered 'American soil'.

By failing to respond to the Request for Admissions and Request for the Production of Documents within 30 days, Obama has “admitted” that he was born in Kenya, Berg stated this week in new court filings.

By not filing the answers or objections, the defense has admitted everything. [Obama] admits he was born in Kenya. He admits he was adopted in Indonesia. He admits that the documentation posted online is a phony. And he admits that he is constitutionally ineligible to serve as president of the United States.”

Obama knows the law and this was too important just to forget!!

The lawsuit, filed by former Pennsylvania Deputy Attorney General Philip J. Berg — a self-avowed supporter of Hillary Clinton — alleges that Barack Obama was born in Kenya and is thus “ineligible” to run for president of the United States. It demands that Obama’s lawyers produce a copy of his original birth certificate to prove that he is a natural-born U.S. citizen.

The Web site snarkybytes.com has produced a ‘vault copy’ of a Hawaii Certificate of Live Birth from 1963, issued by the Hawaii Department of Health.  In addition to naming the hospital and more details about the baby, the supposed 1963 vault copy also includes the “usual residence of the mother,” and the “usual occupation” of the father. As you can see none of this information appears on the 2007 Live Birth certificate produced by the Obama campaign???  There is definitely something wrong here!!

 

And then we get to the point that Obama's Kenyan grandmother said she was present at the birth in Kenya.

According to FactCheck.org...

“When Barack Obama Jr. was born on Aug. 4,1961, in Honolulu (or maybe not), Kenya was a British colony, still part of the United Kingdom’s dwindling empire. As a Kenyan native, Barack Obama Sr. was a British subject whose citizenship status was governed by The British Nationality Act of 1948. That same act governed the status of Obama Sr.‘s children.

Since Sen. Obama has neither renounced his U.S. citizenship nor sworn an oath of allegiance to Kenya, his Kenyan citizenship automatically expired on Aug. 4,1982.”

This sounds to me like Obama either held dual British Citizenship or Kenyan Citizenship and U.S. Citizenship, but if he was born on Africa, he is unqualified to be president of the United States... and he knows it.

And now there is supposedly also another birth certificate floating around that states that Obama's father was only 15% African and 85% an Arab-Muslim, which again substantiates that Barack was at least a Muslim by birth, and we know that he attended Muslim schools.

One thing I've learned in my life is... when there are this many questions and irregularities... there is a problem.  As the saying goes, "Where there is smoke there is fire."

Perhaps there is more to this trip to Hawaii to see his ailing grandmother??  If he comes up with a newly altered birth certificate when he returns... I'd say there is a problem!?!?!

In addition to Pennsylvania, the latest lawsuits have been filed in state and federal courts in Hawaii, Washington, California, Florida, Georgia, New York, and Connecticut to compel Obama to release his birth records.

Ironically, Obama mentions his birth certificate in passing on Page 26 of his 1995 memoir, “Dreams of My Father.” “I discovered this article, folded away among my birth certificate and old vaccination forms, when I was in high school,” he wrote.

Lawyers for Obama and the DNC did not return calls for comment on the current status of the case, or explain why the Obama campaign did not simply put to rest the whole controversy by releasing the birth certificate that 'Obama apparently cherished as a teenager'.  Perhaps it is because it shows that he was born in Africa?

A Pennsylvania lawsuit alleging that Barack Obama is not a “natural-born citizen” of the United States took an unusual twist this week, after a federally mandated deadline requiring Obama’s lawyers to produce a “vault” copy of his birth certificate expired with no response from Obama or his lawyers.  (Perhaps there is more to this trip to see his ailing grandmother??  Coming up with another altered document??)

The lawsuit, filed by former Pennsylvania Deputy Attorney General Philip J. Berg — a self-avowed supporter of Hillary Clinton — alleges that Barack Obama was born in Kenya and is thus “ineligible” to run for president of the United States. It demands that Obama’s lawyers produce a copy of his original birth certificate to prove that he is a natural-born U.S. citizen.

Berg's suit and allegations have set off a wave of Internet buzz and rumors, though Obama could easily have put the matter to rest by providing the federal court with the basic documentation proving he is eligible to take the oath of a president. But Obama has apparently decided to deny the court and the public that documentation.  (another document missing...???)

The Constitution provides that any U.S. citizen is eligible to become president if the person is 35 years of age or older and is a natural-born citizen; that is, born in the territorial United States. (which includes military bases, embassies, and a few other such exceptions that are considered 'American soil'.

By failing to respond to the Request for Admissions and Request for the Production of Documents within 30 days, Obama has “admitted” that he was born in Kenya, Berg stated this week in new court filings.

Berg released a long list of “admissions” he submitted to Obama’s lawyers on Sept. 15, and asked that they produce documents relating to Obama’s place of birth and citizenship.

Instead of responding, lawyers for Obama and the DNC asked the court to dismiss the case. But Judge R. Barclay Surrick of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania has issued no ruling in the case that would have given Obama’s lawyers more time.

“There are lots of legal ways to stonewall,” a well-placed Republican attorney told Newsmax, who was not authorized to comment officially on the case. “But failing to respond is not one of them.”

“The first thing they teach you in law school,” he added, “is don’t put a complaint like this in a drawer. That’s how a nuisance case can become a problem.”

The 30-day deadline for defendants to comply with a discovery request is set forth in the Federal Rules of Civil Procedures.

“It all comes down to the fact that there's nothing from the other side,” Berg said after he filed a motion on Thursday for summary judgment.

“The admissions are there. By not filing the answers or objections, the defense has admitted everything. [Obama] admits he was born in Kenya. He admits he was adopted in Indonesia. He admits that the documentation posted online is a phony. And he admits that he is constitutionally ineligible to serve as president of the United States.”

In a contentious case, lawyers on both sides will haggle over the production of documents, and will frequently go beyond the deadlines, several lawyers told Newsmax.

“The rules are more often complied with in the breech rather than the observance,” a senior trial attorney who has close ties to the Democrat Party, but is not involved in the current case, told Newsmax.

“Lawyers frequently do not return telephone calls or meet discovery deadlines because of sheer inadvertence. Therefore, we do not consider a failure to respond as a ‘violation,’” he said.

Allegations surrounding Obama’s place of birth have been swirling for months. Earlier this year, the Obama campaign sought to put down the rumors by making available a computer-generated Certification of Live Birth, issued in 2007 by the State of Hawaii. Respected conservative blogger Ed Morrissey called the Berg lawsuit a “conspiracy theory” that had been put to rest by the Obama campaign over the summer but ”has arisen like a zombie yet again to suck the credibility out of the conservative blogosphere.”

However, the 2007 document produced by the Obama campaign omits key information that normally appears on birth certificates in the United States, including the name of the hospital where he was born, the size and weight of the baby, and sometimes the name of the doctor who delivered him.

In addition, the critics of the 2007 document note that Obama's father is described as “African,” a term used today. The formal language in official documents at the time — 1961 — would have identified his race as “Negro” or “Colored.”

The Web site snarkybytes.com has produced a vault copy of a Hawaii Certificate of Live Birth from 1963, issued by the Hawaii Department of Health.[See the vault copy — Click Here.]

In addition to naming the hospital and more details about the baby, the 1963 vault copy also includes the “usual residence of the mother,” and the “usual occupation” of the father. None of this information appears on the 2007 Live Birth certificate produced by the Obama campaign???

Berg has been a perennial political candidate in Pennsylvania, having run in Democrat primaries for attorney general, lieutenant governor, governor, and other offices without success. He served as deputy attorney general of the State of Pennsylvania from 1972-1980.

His credibility was tarnished by work he did for the far-left “9/11 for the Truth” campaign, which alleged in a federal lawsuit that the collapse of the twin towers in New York was caused by “controlled demolition” ordered by the president of the United States.

Nevertheless, in recent weeks, lawsuits have been filed in seven additional states demanding that Barack Obama produce an original vault copy of his birth certificate, to dispel the rumors that he is not a natural-born United States citizen.

The latest suits have been filed in state and federal courts in Hawaii, Washington, California, Florida, Georgia, New York, and Connecticut to compel Obama to release his birth records.

Lawsuits in Washington and Georgia are seeking state superior courts to force the states’ secretary of state, as the chief state elections officer, to require Obama to produce original birth records from Hawaii, or else decertify him as a candidate for the presidency.

In the past, questions about Sen. John McCain's legal status have arisen. McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone at a U.S. Army hospital. McCain had legal experts vet his constitutional qualifications, and he also disclosed a copy of his birth certificate.

As a Kenyan native, Barack Obama Sr. was a British subject whose citizenship status was governed by The British Nationality Act of 1948. That same act governed the status of Obama Sr.‘s children.

Since Sen. Obama has neither renounced his U.S. citizenship nor sworn an oath of allegiance to Kenya, his Kenyan citizenship automatically expired on Aug. 4,1982.”

 

This sounds to me like Obama held dual British Citizenship or Kenyan Citizenship and U.S. Citizenship, but if he was born on Africa, he is unqualified to be president of the United States... and he knows it.

And now there is supposedly also another birth certificate floating around that states that Obama's father was only 15% African and 85% an Arab-Muslim, which again substantiates that Barack was at least a Muslim by birth, and we know that he attended Muslim schools.

One thing I've learned in my life is... when there are this many questions and irregularities... there is a problem.  As the saying goes, "Where there is smoke there is fire."

Secret, Foreign Money Floods Into Obama Campaign

More than half of the whopping $426.9 million Barack Obama has raised has come from small donors whose names the Obama campaign won't disclose. And questions have arisen about millions more in foreign donations the Obama campaign has received that apparently have not been vetted as legitimate. Obama has raised nearly twice that of John McCain's campaign, according to new campaign finance report. But because of Obama’s high expenses during the hotly contested Democratic primary season and an early decision to forgo public campaign money and the spending limits it imposes, all that cash has not translated into a financial advantage — at least, not yet. The Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee began September with $95 million in cash, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). The McCain camp and the Republican National Committee had $94 million, because of an influx of $84 million in public money. But Obama easily could outpace McCain by $50 million to $100 million or more in new donations before Election Day, thanks to a legion of small contributors whose names and addresses have been kept secret. Unlike the McCain campaign, which has made its complete donor database available online, the Obama campaign has not identified donors for nearly half the amount he has raised, according to the Center for Responsive Politics (CRP). Federal law does not require the campaigns to identify donors who give less than $200 during the election cycle. However, it does require that campaigns calculate running totals for each donor and report them once they go beyond the $200 mark. Surprisingly, the great majority of Obama donors never break the $200 threshold. “Contributions that come under $200 aggregated per person are not listed,” said Bob Biersack, a spokesman for the FEC. “They don’t appear anywhere, so there’s no way of knowing who they are.” The FEC breakdown of the Obama campaign has identified a staggering $222.7 million as coming from contributions of $200 or less. Only $39.6 million of that amount comes from donors the Obama campaign has identified. It is the largest pool of unidentified money that has ever flooded into the U.S. election system, before or after the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reforms of 2002. Biersack would not comment on whether the FEC was investigating the huge amount of cash that has come into Obama’s coffers with no public reporting. But Massie Ritsch, a spokesman for CRP, a campaign-finance watchdog group, dismissed the scale of the unreported money. “We feel comfortable that it isn’t the $20 donations that are corrupting a campaign,” he told Newsmax. But those small donations have added up to more than $200 million, all of it from unknown and unreported donors. Ritsch acknowledges that there is skepticism about all the unreported money, especially in the Obama campaign coffers. “We and seven other watchdog groups asked both campaigns for more information on small donors,” he said. “The Obama campaign never responded,” whereas the McCain campaign “makes all its donor information, including the small donors, available online.” The rise of the Internet as a campaign funding tool raises new questions about the adequacy of FEC requirements on disclosure. In pre-Internet fundraising, almost all political donations, even small ones, were made by bank check, leaving a paper trail and limiting the amount of fraud. But credit cards used to make donations on the Internet have allowed for far more abuse. “While FEC practice is to do a post-election review of all presidential campaigns, given their sluggish metabolism, results can take three or four years,” said Ken Boehm, the chairman of the conservative National Legal and Policy Center. Already, the FEC has noted unusual patterns in Obama campaign donations among donors who have been disclosed because they have gone beyond the $200 minimum. FEC and Mr. Doodad Pro When FEC auditors have questions about contributions, they send letters to the campaign’s finance committee requesting additional information, such as the complete address or employment status of the donor. Many of the FEC letters that Newsmax reviewed instructed the Obama campaign to “redesignate” contributions in excess of the finance limits. Under campaign finance laws, an individual can donate $2,300 to a candidate for federal office in both the primary and general election, for a total of $4,600. If a donor has topped the limit in the primary, the campaign can “redesignate” the contribution to the general election on its books. In a letter dated June 25, 2008, the FEC asked the Obama campaign to verify a series of $25 donations from a contributor identified as “Will, Good” from Austin, Texas. Mr. Good Will listed his employer as “Loving” and his profession as “You.” A Newsmax analysis of the 1.4 million individual contributions in the latest master file for the Obama campaign discovered 1,000 separate entries for Mr. Good Will, most of them for $25. In total, Mr. Good Will gave $17,375. Following this and subsequent FEC requests, campaign records show that 330 contributions from Mr. Good Will were credited back to a credit card. But the most recent report, filed on Sept. 20, showed a net cumulative balance of $8,950 — still well over the $4,600 limit. There can be no doubt that the Obama campaign noticed these contributions, since Obama’s Sept. 20 report specified that Good Will’s cumulative contributions since the beginning of the campaign were $9,375. In an e-mailed response to a query from Newsmax, Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt pledged that the campaign would return the donations. But given the slowness with which the campaign has responded to earlier FEC queries, there’s no guarantee that the money will be returned before the Nov. 4 election. Similarly, a donor identified as “Pro, Doodad,” from “Nando, NY,” gave $19,500 in 786 separate donations, most of them for $25. For most of these donations, Mr. Doodad Pro listed his employer as “Loving” and his profession as “You,” just as Good Will had done. But in some of them, he didn’t even go this far, apparently picking letters at random to fill in the blanks on the credit card donation form. In these cases, he said he was employed by “VCX” and that his profession was “VCVC.” Following FEC requests, the Obama campaign began refunding money to Doodad Pro in February 2008. In all, about $8,425 was charged back to a credit card. But that still left a net total of $11,165 as of Sept. 20, way over the individual limit of $4,600. Here again, LaBolt pledged that the contributions would be returned but gave no date. In February, after just 93 donations, Doodad Pro had already gone over the $2,300 limit for the primary. He was over the $4,600 limit for the general election one month later. In response to FEC complaints, the Obama campaign began refunding money to Doodad Pro even before he reached these limits. But his credit card was the gift that kept on giving. His most recent un-refunded contributions were on July 7, when he made 14 separate donations, apparently by credit card, of $25 each. Just as with Mr. Good Will, there can be no doubt that the Obama campaign noticed the contributions, since its Sept. 20 report specified that Doodad’s cumulative contributions since the beginning of the campaign were $10,965. Foreign Donations And then there are the overseas donations — at least, the ones that we know about. The FEC has compiled a separate database of potentially questionable overseas donations that contains more than 11,500 contributions totaling $33.8 million. More than 520 listed their “state” as “IR,” often an abbreviation for Iran. Another 63 listed it as “UK,” the United Kingdom. More than 1,400 of the overseas entries clearly were U.S. diplomats or military personnel, who gave an APO address overseas. Their total contributions came to just $201,680. But others came from places as far afield as Abu Dhabi, Addis Ababa, Beijing, Fallujah, Florence, Italy, and a wide selection of towns and cities in France. Until recently, the Obama Web site allowed a contributor to select the country where he resided from the entire membership of the United Nations, including such friendly places as North Korea and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Unlike McCain’s or Sen. Hillary Clinton’s online donation pages, the Obama site did not ask for proof of citizenship until just recently. Clinton’s presidential campaign required U.S. citizens living abroad to actually fax a copy of their passport before a donation would be accepted. With such lax vetting of foreign contributions, the Obama campaign may have indirectly contributed to questionable fundraising by foreigners. In July and August, the head of the Nigeria’s stock market held a series of pro-Obama fundraisers in Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city. The events attracted local Nigerian business owners. At one event, a table for eight at one fundraising dinner went for $16,800. Nigerian press reports claimed sponsors raked in an estimated $900,000. The sponsors said the fundraisers were held to help Nigerians attend the Democratic convention in Denver. But the Nigerian press expressed skepticism of that claim, and the Nigerian public anti-fraud commission is now investigating the matter. Concerns about foreign fundraising have been raised by other anecdotal accounts of illegal activities. In June, Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi gave a public speech praising Obama, claiming foreign nationals were donating to his campaign. “All the people in the Arab and Islamic world and in Africa applauded this man,” the Libyan leader said. “They welcomed him and prayed for him and for his success, and they may have even been involved in legitimate contribution campaigns to enable him to win the American presidency..." Though Gadhafi asserted that fundraising from Arab and African nations were “legitimate,” the fact is that U.S. federal law bans any foreigner from donating to a U.S. election campaign. The rise of the Internet and use of credit cards have made it easier for foreign nationals to donate to American campaigns, especially if they claim their donation is less than $200. Campaign spokesman LaBolt cited several measures that the campaign has adopted to “root out fraud,” including a requirement that anyone attending an Obama fundraising event overseas present a valid U.S. passport, and a new requirement that overseas contributors must provide a passport number when donating online. One new measure that might not appear obvious at first could be frustrating to foreigners wanting to buy campaign paraphernalia such as T-shirts or bumper stickers through the online store. In response to an investigation conducted by blogger Pamela Geller, who runs the blog Atlas Shrugs, the Obama campaign has locked down the store. Geller first revealed on July 31 that donors from the Gaza strip had contributed $33,000 to the Obama campaign through bulk purchases of T-shirts they had shipped to Gaza. The online campaign store allows buyers to complete their purchases by making an additional donation to the Obama campaign. A pair of Palestinian brothers named Hosam and Monir Edwan contributed more than $31,300 to the Obama campaign in October and November 2007, FEC records show. Their largesse attracted the attention of the FEC almost immediately. In an April 15, 2008, report that examined the Obama campaign’s year-end figures for 2007, the FEC asked that some of these contributions be reassigned. The Obama camp complied sluggishly, prompting a more detailed admonishment form the FEC on July 30. The Edwan brothers listed their address as “GA,” as in Georgia, although they entered “Gaza” or “Rafah Refugee camp” as their city of residence on most of the online contribution forms. According to the Obama campaign, they wrongly identified themselves as U.S. citizens, via a voluntary check-off box at the time the donations were made. Many of the Edwan brothers’ contributions have been purged from the FEC database, but they still can be found in archived versions available for CRP and other watchdog groups. The latest Obama campaign filing shows that $891.11 still has not been refunded to the Edwan brothers, despite repeated FEC warnings and campaign claims that all the money was refunded in December. A Newsmax review of the Obama campaign finance filings found that the FEC had asked for the redesignation or refund of 53,828 donations, totaling just under $30 million. But none involves the donors who never appear in the Obama campaign reports, which the CRP estimates at nearly half the $426.8 million the Obama campaign has raised to date. Many of the small donors participated in online “matching” programs, which allows them to hook up with other Obama supporters and eventually share e-mail addresses and blogs. The Obama Web site described the matching contribution program as similar to a public radio fundraising drive. “Our goal is to bring 50,000 new donors into our movement by Friday at midnight,” campaign manager David Plouffe e-mailed supporters on Sept. 15. “And if you make your first online donation today, your gift will go twice as far. A previous donor has promised to match every dollar you donate.” FEC spokesman Biersack said he was unfamiliar with the matching donation drive. But he said that if donations from another donor were going to be reassigned to a new donor, as the campaign suggested, “the two people must agree” to do so. This type of matching drive probably would be legal as long as the matching donor had not exceeded the $2,300 per-election limit, he said. Obama campaign spokesman LaBolt said, “We have more than 2.5 million donors overall, hundreds of thousands of which have participated in this program.” Until now, the names of those donors and where they live have remained anonymous — and the federal watchdog agency in charge of ensuring that the presidential campaigns play by the same rules has no tools to find out. Obama Outspending McCain 3-to-1 on TV Ads Barack Obama has been outspending John McCain on television advertising by a hefty margin of nearly 3-to-1 — an edge that’s helping to boost the Democrat’s campaign in key battleground states. From Sept. 30 to Oct. 6, Obama spent more than $20 million on TV ads in 17 states, while McCain spent only $7.2 million in 15 states, according to Chris Cillizza, who writes “The Fix” column for The Washington Post. “The spending edge enjoyed by Obama has been used almost exclusively to hammer McCain as both a clone of the current president and someone who is out of touch on key domestic issues — notably the economy,” Cillizza observes. Obama’s big spending no doubt contributed to the McCain campaign’s decision last week to pull his TV ads in Michigan. Obama spent nearly $2.2 million on TV ads in Michigan in the past week, while McCain bought only $642,000 worth of TV time. The advantage was substantial even when considering the additional $1 million spent by the Republican National Committee. According to figures obtained by Cillizza: In Florida, Obama spent more than $2.8 million on television spots in the last week, while McCain’s outlay was $623,000.   Obama spent about $1.5 million on TV ads in North Carolina in the last week, compared to McCain’s $137,000.   In Pennsylvania, Obama disbursed more than $3 million, compared to $1.2 million in spending by McCain and $807,000 by the RNC.   McCain spent nothing in Indiana. Among the states that Cillizza examined, only in Iowa and Minnesota did McCain have an advantage over Obama in TV spending. But Cillizza noted that “spending by the RNC’s independent expenditure arm has kept McCain within shouting distance of Obama in several critical states including Ohio and Wisconsin.” © 2008 Newsmax.
