Happy Birthday, President Reagan

Today marks the birthday of Ronald Wilson Reagan, 40th president of the United States of America.

Joshua Pundit:

Reagan became president when the United States was in a period of great stress, just after the tenure of Jimmy Carter. Inflation and interest rates were in double digits and unemployment was close to 7%, taxes were at an all time high, America's foreign policy and international prestige were reeling from the Iranian hostage crisis, severe cutbacks in defense and successful Soviet penetration all over the world.

Worse than that, Americans seemed to have lost confidence in themselves and in the country's greatness.

Reagan squared his shoulders, rolled up his sleeves and got to work. He cut government, cut taxes, and oversaw the creation of 16 million new jobs and economic growth at 3.5 % per year. He rebuilt America's military. He was unafraid to call the Soviet Union an evil empire, or to challenge them directly so that their evil empire crumpled into the dust of history.

He left America safer, stronger and wealthier than it was when he came, which is the most you can ask of a president. In simple terms, he was a singularly decent man who honored both himself and the nation he served.

He gave us confidence in ourselves again, reminded us of who we are and that we are a country singularly blessed by G-d's providence. He inspired us as a nation. And he did it with grace, charm, wit and style, and with a sunny optimism that reached out to the best in us.

If ever a president deserved a national holiday to honor him, President Reagan does.

He was by no means perfect, as he would doubtless be the first to say. But in Ronald Reagan, we have an example of what real leadership is, an example especially needed today.

Happy Birthday, Mr. President...We Miss You!!!

** And let us remember this conservative yet practical leader in the upcoming elections of 2014 and 2016.  Reagan's old and proven formula was to unite behind the most conservative and principled candidate(s) available, and to make sure he or she knew that 2-years, let alone 10-months, isn't that far away. It won't be perfect, but it will even put RINO’s who survive on notice that times have changed!!

Happy 101st Birthday President Ronald Reagan

Late President Reagan Feted on 101st Birthday

After his brief stint in Hollywood, however, he switched to the right and and is known to have said, "I didn't leave the Democratic Party. The party left me."

Fans of Ronald Reagan, the 40th U.S. president, celebrate on Monday his 101st birthday at a ceremony at his Presidential Library in Simi Valley.

The ceremony includes a color guard, chaplain, a brass quintet, a 21- gun salute and the placing of an official White House wreath on Reagan's gravesite.

Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, who was a political aide in the Reagan administration, delivers the keynote address.

The celebration coincides with the state’s second Ronald Reagan Day that was enacted under a 2010 law written by former state Sen. George Runner.

SB 944 establishes Feb. 6 as a special day of significance in honor of Reagan, akin to other days celebrating naturalist John Muir, California teachers and the California poppy.

The bill did not create a state holiday and does not cost the taxpayers money.

“In these challenging economic times, we can learn much from our former governor and president,” said Runner, now a member of the Board of Equalization. “Ronald Reagan believed in the American people and he was confident that our nation's brightest days are ahead of us.”

Runner invited all Californians to visit www.facebook.com/ReaganDay to share a favorite memory, quote, photo or video of Reagan.

Twitter users are invited to tweet their memories using the hash tag #ReaganDay.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich called Reagan “a gracious, humble patriot” who “brought respect, dignity and principle to the state house and White House.

“Through his leadership, along with Margaret Thatcher and Pope John Paul II, the Berlin Wall collapsed, we saw the end of Soviet communism and the hammer and sickle joined the swastika on the junk pile of history,” said Antonovich, who served in the Assembly when Reagan was governor, was his representative on the Platform Committee at the 1976 Republican National Convention and his appointee to several federal commissions.

You can watch the ceremony online.

America remembers our beloved 40th president today! In honor of President Reagan’s 101st birthday, Americans For Prosperity put together the great video above reminding us of the time-tested truths Reagan stood for. at the Reagan Ranch in Santa Barbara, CA

Last year at this time, I had the honor of speaking at the Young America’s Foundation’s Reagan Centennial dinner at the Reagan Ranch Center in Santa Barbara. You can watch or read the speech here; it was an homage to Reagan’s famous “Time for Choosing” and a discussion of the state of our nation today.

During the Illinois leg of the One Nation Tour, we got to visit Reagan’s hometown of Dixon, as well as his alma mater, Eureka College. It was a very moving experience, which I wrote about here, here and here.

As I wrote in an op-ed last year on Reagan’s centennial:

I had the privilege of coming of age during the era of Ronald Reagan. I like to think of him as America's lifeguard. As a teenager, Ronald Reagan saved 77 lives as a lifeguard on the Rock River, which ran through his hometown of Dixon, Ill. The day he was inaugurated in 1981, a local radio announcer famously declared, "The Rock River flows for you tonight, Mr. President."

The image of the lifeguard seems to represent what Reagan was to America and to the freedom-loving people of the world. He lifted our country up at a time when we were in the depths of economic, cultural and spiritual malaise. We were told that we must accept that the era of American greatness was over; but with his optimism and common sense, President Reagan held up a mirror to the American soul to remind us of our exceptionalism.

Happy Birthday from the Palins!

When Ronald Reagan passed away after his long fight with Alzheimer's where few saw him because of his beloved Nancy’s diligent attempt to preserve the public’s memory of the President in a better light than the final years treated him.  The outpouring of love and attendance of events as people of both parties lined the streets of Simi Valley for miles, portrayed what would be his place in history.  Ronnie was a larger than life figure that brought people together.  People of both parties loved Reagan as a person and as an American hero who fought for America (and California), whether you agreed with his politics or not.  Just about everyone loved Ronnie because he love them and America! Barack Obama feasts while Rome burns. Do America’s ruling liberal elites think they are the new emperors?

As reported in Great Britain By Nile Gardiner World Last updated: August 4th, 2011  -  104 Comments Comment on this article

Fiddling while America's heatland freezes

Fiddling while America's heartland freezes

I don’t think anyone will begrudge the president for celebrating his 50th birthday. It’s a big milestone in life that deserves to be marked. But does he need to do it in such an extravagant and insensitive style at a time of tremendous economic turmoil when tens of millions of Americans are hurting financially and nearly one in ten are out of work? Barack Obama is not a Hollywood celebrity or corporate mogul. He is a public official, paid for by the American people, and is expected to lead the country by example.

Is it really necessary to host a $35,800 a head campaign fundraiser in Chicago as the United States faces  towering debts and the possibility of a double-dip recession? Details of the event emerged today in several US papers, including this report in The Washington Post:

Good thing that debt-ceiling tussling is over. Now begins President Obama’s 50th-birthday week, with lots of fundraising fun and plenty of recruiting for the 2012 reelection campaign.

There is the gala fundraiser Wednesday night in Chicago at the Aragon Ballroom featuring stars from that city — maybe Jennifer Hudson , Herbie Hancock and others. There’s also a dinner fundraiser planned for some high rollers for only $35,800 a person. (Must be serving some really good grub.)

For America’s ruling liberal elites there is clearly no age of austerity, but there is undoubtedly an air of impunity with a rather vulgar let them eat cake mentality. I very much doubt the British prime minister would even dream of holding this kind of ostentatious bash on his upcoming 45th birthday while at the same time telling the British people they must be prepared to make historic sacrifices to restore the economy. And undoubtedly there will be significant costs to the American taxpayer with the intense security involved in these large-scale presidential events.

With 75 percent of likely US voters believing the country is heading in the wrong direction, and with a job approval rating scraping 40 percent, this should be a time for humility from the White House. There is instead a great deal of imperious arrogance on display, coupled with increasingly bitter and nasty attacks on political opponents – witness vice president Joe Biden’s astonishing outburst against the Tea Party earlier this week.

After 30 months of staggering levels of public spending, massive failed bailouts, rising unemployment, declining consumer confidence, and a collapsing housing market, the American economy is literally on its knees. This is no time for grand celebrations Mr. President, but should be a moment for pause and reflection, as the world’s only superpower heads towards the economic abyss under his leadership.

Happy Birthday Mr. President - WH (Valerie Jarrett): Americans Want Us To Move Forward…To Plan Obama’s B-Day Fundraiser!

So… Is it on or is it off?  U.S. media is keeping it all very hush hush, but the bets are that since the Grand Compromise bill has been signed that it is on!!  Guess we will find out~

Marilyn Monroe embarrassed President John F. Kennedy in front of the American people for his birthday in 1962.

Video:  Marilyn Monroe -  Happy Birthday Mr. President

For is 50th… Obama plans to insult the American people by having this lavish party for his 50th that will cost U.S. taxpayers (guesstimated) around $1.9 million when all is said and done… so after saddling us with another $2.5Trillion in debt he can simultaneously raise money, on our nickel) to be re-elected and do it to us again. What you didn’t get your invitation?  Well. you can take pride in the fact that you helped pay for it…

As Washington races to the finish line to solve the debt ceiling deadline, the president is still busy planning his birthday big money fundraising bash in Chicago on Wednesday. When asked if the president should postpone the party/fundraiser due to the country’s economic realities, WH advisor Valerie Jarrett said the American people want “us” to “move forward.” Advice to the White House, Americans may want to move forward, but with 9.2 percent unemployment that might be the next thing to tackle…not a fundraiser.

Andrea Mitchell: Do you think the president should go forward with his birthday celebration which is basically a fundraiser… Or should that be postponed given the economic realities?

Valerie Jarrett: I think what the American people want to see is for us to move this debate behind us and move forward.

Party Details from the UK…

Last updated at 11:27 AM on 1st August 2011

It was supposed to be the mother of all parties, now it may not happen at all.

President Obama's big 50th birthday is scheduled for August 3, the day after the debt talks deadline and the date that the U.S. had risked defaulting on its good faith and credit.

Despite the announcement of a deal on Sunday night, the champagne corks may not be popping in Chicago as doubts remain if the deal will actually make it through both houses of Congress.

Singing for the President? Jennifer Hudson was scheduled to join the bash at Chicago's Aragon Ballroom

Singing for the President? Jennifer Hudson was scheduled to join the bash at Chicago's Aragon Ballroom (Bummer she was one of my favorites!)

The party was planned for the Aragon Ballroom, which costs $40,000 to rent.

There is supposed to be a concert featuring jazz pianist Herbie Hancock and Jennifer Hudson, the star of Dreamgirls.

The entertainment was to be followed by a lavish dinner for couples giving $35,800 to Obama's campaign.

With the government scheduled to run out of money on Tuesday, an extravagant bash would hardly look good.

The plans are currently on hold, but senior White House officials are still saying the party would go forward only if the deficit negotiations and deadline to raise the debt limit ceiling have been resolved.

Booked to appear: Famed jazz pianist was said to providing some of the entertainment at the party

Glum: The President has said the birthday present he wants more than anything else is 'a debt-ceiling deal'

Glum: The President has said the birthday present he wants more than anything else is 'a debt-ceiling deal' (wrapped in special hidden goodies that we are already finding… only hours after the bill was passed by the Senate and signed by Obama)

An official said: 'The President will not attend the event in Chicago if negotiations are ongoing.'

Mr. Obama has already cancelled a series of campaign fundraisers to stay in Washington for the tense negotiations that have angered the U.S. public, worried financial markets and raised fears of a first-ever U.S. debt default.

The fundraisers would have brought in millions of dollars for the re-election war chest, the campaign official said.

The President cancelled a planned trip to California and Seattle, put off a fundraiser in New York

Mr. Obama's last campaign fundraiser was on June 30 in Pennsylvania.

He reported raising $86 million in the quarter ended on June 30, far eclipsing the money raised by any of the Republicans vying for their party's nomination to compete against him in the 2012 president election.

Asked what he most wanted for his birthday, Mr. Obama said 'a debt-ceiling deal.'

Obama’s Lavish Birthday Plans

Happy Birthday, Mr. President

Originally posted: July 16th, 2011

If America defaults on its debts come Aug. 2 -- as the Obama folks warn, absent a deal by then -- what will President Obama do on Aug. 3? Why, host a big birthday bash for himself, of course, to raise cash for his re-election.

That's his plan right now, anyway. (He turns 50 on Aug. 4.) Tickets for a private birthday dinner with the prez will go for as much as $35,800 a couple.

We, too, want to wish the president a joyous birthday. But how can anyone take seriously his threats of default -- and those of underlings like Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner -- when Obama himself doesn't seem terribly concerned?

Barack Obama

Indeed, the president and his fellow Democrats haven't seemed particularly worried about the nation's fiscal state for some time now:

* Obama has yet to produce any detailed proposal for a debt-ceiling deal, including what budget cuts he'd make. So what is it, exactly, that negotiators are supposed to agree on before Aug. 2?

* Since the president's $3.7 trillion baloney budget -- with its monstrous $9.5 trillion in deficits over 10 years -- was nixed in May by every voting Democrat and Republican in the Senate, he's yet to offer a new one.

* In 2010, House Dems failed their most basic responsibility: to pass a budget. It was Congress' first such failure in 36 years.

* House Republicans, by contrast, passed a long-range budget this year, addressing both short-term spending and long-term woes like Medicare. But the Democratic-controlled Senate voted that down -- without offering an alternative.

No wonder the warnings from Obama and Geithner have become more ominous: This week they said even Grandma might not get her Social Security check if no deal is reached by Aug. 2.

Their credibility is shot -- forcing them to heighten their threats.

Meanwhile, though, the prez has big plans for Default Day +1.

Enjoy your birthday, Mr. President.

But Seniors… he might not be able to send out your social security checks.

  • Obama not as old as he thinks
POSTED JULY 15, 2011 AT 8:46 PM BY EDDIE SCARRY

President Obama seems to have a little trouble keeping track of birthdays, even his own. During a press conference in late June he incorrectly identified his daughter Maliaas being 13 years old. She was 12 at the time and her birthday wasn’t for another five days.

Then in another presser on Friday, Obama said he would be turning 50 “in a week.” Actually, he won’t hit his half-a-century mark for almost another three weeks, according to USA Today. His birthday is on Aug. 4.

We hope, for his sake, his memory doesn’t fail him when it comes to his and Mrs. Obama’s anniversary. Just in case, it’s Oct. 3.

  • h/t Politico and Daily Thought Pad

Well… we didn’t default, but most people are very unhappy with ‘the deal’ still not resolved this morning… the day before Obama’s party most people feel that this extravagant party and fundraiser are a bit of slap in the face of the American people…. most of whom, now, plan not to vote for him.

At a time when many Americans can barely afford Burger King and a movie, Obama boasts of spending a billion dollars on his re-election campaign and a bundle (whatever the exact figure is) on a birthday party for himself.

August 3: Day of Reckoning

On Tuesday evening, President Obama was being interviewed by Scott Pelley, who asked the President whether he could guarantee that Americans would get their Social Security checks if the debt ceiling weren't raised:

Can you tell the folks at home that, no matter what happens, the[ir] Social Security checks are going to go out on August the 3rd?

Obama:  Well, this is not just a matter of Social Security checks. These are folks on disability and their checks. There are about 70 million checks that go out each month.

Pelley: Can you guarantee, as president, that those checks will go out on August the 3rd?

Obama: I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven’t resolved the [debt] issue, because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it.

A howl of protests that the President was being disingenuous, at best, went up immediately. On Wednesday morning, Terence Jeffrey, writing for CNSNews.com, noted that according to the Daily Treasury Statement for June 30 there was plenty of income to cover all the government’s expenses for the month, with a little left over. Peter Morici, an economist at the University of Maryland, said, “You do not have to default and you don’t have to shut down the government if you choose not to.” Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) was quick to point out that the President’s doubts about being able to pay the country’s bills and consequently being forced to default were a “misnomer:”

This is a misnomer that I believe the president and the treasury secretary have been trying to pass off on the American people, and it’s this: That if Congress fails to raise the debt ceiling by $2.5 trillion, that somehow the United States will go into default and we will lose the ‘full faith and credit’ of the United States. That is simply not true.

Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) charged the President with bullying: “My concern is that we have a president who is not willing to do his job, and that is to prioritize the spending, that he is digging in his heels, being very intransigent, and he’s being a rigid ideologue.” Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) came close to suggesting that the President was lying:

We know from the House rules that the president never lies, but he is taking advice and information from somebody apparently who is willing to lie, because it’s just not true. The fear mongering needs to stop.

In the event that the debt ceiling debate is not resolved by Friday, July 22, there would be no time to avoid the drop dead date of August 3, and the Treasury would appear to face some daunting decisions. Jay Powell, former Undersecretary of the Treasury under President George H.W. Bush, has published an analysis of the options facing the Treasury on August 3 without a debt ceiling resolution. According to Powell, August revenues to the government will be $172 billion, while payments are expected to total $306 billion, with a shortfall of $134 billion. At least three interactive tools have been developed for those willing to make the decisions of who to pay and who to stiff have been developed here, here, and here.

No matter which one is selected, the numbers, if they are to be believed, are grim, and the choices limited. The Treasury could spend all of its revenue on just six bills that are due in August: interest on the national debt ($29 billion), Medicare ($28.6 billion), Medicaid ($21.4 billion), Social Security ($49.2 billion), defense vendor payments ($31.7 billion), and unemployment insurance ($12.8 billion). That would leave unpaid Active Military Duty pay ($2.9 billion), Veterans Affairs programs ($2.9 billion), IRS tax refunds ($3.0 billion), food stamps ($7.1 billion), federal government employees’ salaries ($14.2 billion), Departments of Education, Housing and Urban Development, Energy, and Environmental Protection ($31.3 billion), the Federal Highway Administration ($4.5 billion), the General Services Administration ($41.7 billion), the Justice Department ($1.4 billion), and “other spending” ($42 billion). In addition there would be no funds for the Small Business Administration, the Department of Labor, the Federal Transit Administration, Health and Human Services grants, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Department of Homeland Security, NASA, or the Centers for Disease Control.

Credit rating agencies Moody’s and Standard and Poor’s have stated that the United States faces a possible credit downgrade if the government is allowed to default. As the White House Press Secretary put it: “You would have to make heinous choices about which bills you would pay.”

In an effort to inform about (some would say lend support for) raising the debt ceiling, Powell’s study was presented to several Republican Senators on Wednesday evening.

A careful reader should take note of three points. First, the numbers in the Powell study have not been vetted and are merely informed estimates of revenue flow for August. Second, in the perspective of an economy that is generating nearly $15 trillion of goods and services annually ($1.25 trillion a month), the alleged estimated shortfall of $134 billion for the month of August is small change). And remember that June numbers showed revenues exceeding expenses. Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, the government finds itself in the same position as a family whose primary breadwinner has just lost his job, and they now have to cut their standard of living by 40 percent overnight. It seems somehow just, proper, and right that the profligate government would now be faced with the same situation if the debt ceiling weren’t raised. The adjustment, long overdue, would be painful, but necessary. Extending additional credit to the family (or the government) to “get over the hump” merely pushes the day of reckoning off into the very near future, when the financial difficulty will be even more painful to resolve.

We Need Leadership… What We Got Was: The Tantrum in a High Chair (and Then Fear Mongering to Seniors)

Every mom who has ever been at her wit’s end recognizes Barack Obama. The president who earlier nagged Congress that it was time for Americans to “eat our peas” finally threw his own peas to the floor and banged his spoon on his supper dish. Such a tantrum in a high chair is a familiar sight in a lot of kitchens.

“Enough is enough,” the president cried, frustrated by the tense budget talks at the White House. “Don’t call my bluff,” he told his Republican tormentors. “I’m going to the American people.”

If a pout and a sulk is familiar to Mom, every 2-year-old in town can understand the president’s angry frustration. Throwing your peas on the floor, particularly if they’re of the English variety, tasting of copy paper and sliding down a tiny throat like un-lubricated ball bearings, is the instant gratification every tantrum-thrower yearns for. But it’s a presidential strategy we haven’t seen before

These are not the cheers and hosannas the prince of Hyde Park imagined for himself when he agreed to step down from on high to assume the presidential purple. It’s going on three years and the natives are restless. They keep asking impertinent questions. Rep. Eric Cantor, the leader of the Republican House majority, ignited the president’s ire when he suggested the president and the Democrats take a smaller budget deal than His Excellency wants. The president—“he got very agitated,” in the telling of Mr. Cantor, who was there—did not appreciate such lack of respect for royalty.

Harry Reid, the president’s liege man in the Senate, wanted to boot Mr. Cantor from the talks. “He shouldn’t even be at the table,” the majority leader said. No tea and cookies for him. Some Democrats disputed the details in the Republican account, but there was general agreement that Mr. Obama lost his celebrated cool. And why not? So far the budget talks have been a classic standoff between the president, who is determined to raise taxes to make the welfare state grow, and the Republicans, who are determined to cut the bipartisan spending that threatens to spin the economy into an abyss of unknown depth.

The president’s tantrum can have a positive effect, however, if it captures the full attention of the public. Talk of the economy makes the average voter’s head hurt, his teeth itch, and his Jockey shorts bunch up under his belt. The economy has always been like algebra, difficult to grasp, and voters have been willing to leave the algebra to the advocates for the tax-eaters. That may be changing, as one and all begin to recognize that the good life is at risk—the car, the boat, college for the kids, tropical vacations in Maui. The exceptional nation may be at risk of becoming like the toy nations of Europe.

President Obama plays the empty threat to withhold Grandma’s Social Security check. Ben S. Bernanke, chairman of the Federal Reserve, warns of “a huge financial calamity” if Congress refuses to raise the debt limit. This echoes the lamentations of Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner as well as the new chairman of the International Monetary Fund. Moody’s, the financial service that measures such things, piles on, with the dire threat that U.S. bonds could be downgraded. Maybe. It all smells like a contrived campaign to put pressure on the Republicans to cave, just as they have the attention of the president and his frightened Democrats.

The scheme of Sen. Mitch McConnell, the leader of the Republicans in the Senate, to give the president the authority to raise the debt limit without serious cuts and bear the consequences, looks better to the Republicans than it did when he introduced it and for his trouble was scorched by some conservatives as the usual Republican sell-out artist. Democrats squealed like stuck pigs. They naturally don’t want this responsibility because they understand the eventual consequences of continuing to live it up like pigs in the slop-house. Mr. Obama wants Republicans to share the “credit” for his incompetent management of the economy.

The verdict of history, though on the way, is not quite at hand. The verdict of 2012 soon will be, and looms over everything. It’s enough to make a president, swaddled with a bad situation he made much worse, bang his supper dish with his spoon and throw his peas on the floor.

BILLIONS FOR JIHAD!

Obama’s 2009 Supplemental Appropriations for Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Pandemic Flu was revised and “passed by the full committee.”
It gives billions http://creepingsharia.wordpress.com/2009/05/13/obamas-supplemental-bill-passes-gives-billions-to-enemies/  of U.S. taxpayer dollars to countries and entities that support Sharia law and/or harbor, hide and support those who want to destroy the U.S. and our allies.

Read the summary from David Obey’s office that was quietly released last week with nary a word from any media.

• $3.6 billion, matching the request, to expand and improve capabilities of the Afghan security forces

• $400 million, as requested, to build the counterinsurgency capabilities of the Pakistani security forces

• Pakistan: $1.9 billion, $591 million above the request

• Iraq: $968 million, $336 million above the request

• Oversight: $20 million, $13 million above the request, to expand oversight capacity of the State Department, USAID, and the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan to review programs in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq

• Lebanon: $74 million

• International Food Assistance: $500 million, $200 million above the request, for PL 480 international food assistance to alleviate suffering during the global economic crisis… for people who hate us

• Refugee Assistance: $343 million, $50 million above the request, …including humanitarian assistance for Gaza. Funding for the UN Relief and Works Agency programs in the West Bank and Gaza is limited to $119 million (Note: Gaza = Hamas)

• Disaster Assistance: $200 million to avert famines and provide life-saving assistance during natural disasters and for internally displaced people around the world, including Somalia, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, the Middle East and South Asia

•Peacekeeping: $837 million for United Nations
peacekeeping operations, including an expanded mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and a new mission in Chad and the Central African Republic

• Department of Justice: $17 million, matching the request, for counter-terrorism activities and to provide training and assistance for the Iraqi criminal justice system
The mainstream media remains silent on this but the International News has now picked up the story http://www.thenews.com.pk/top_story_detail.asp?Id=22164
— and then there is Obama’s $108 billion IMF bailout scheme http://michellemalkin.com/2009/05/13/obamas-100-billion-imf-bailout-scheme/
in addition to the Supplemental.

Obama’s Lavish 50th Birthday Plans - The Day After Debt Limit Deadline

Happy birthday, Mr. President

During a press conference in late June he incorrectly identified his daughter Malia as being 13 years old.

  • Clinton, 63, says she‘s ’perpetually tired’
POSTED JULY 15, 2011 AT 8:00 PM BY EDDIE SCARRY

Being the Secretary of State is no walk in the park and Hillary Clinton says those closest to her have noticed. In an extensive interview with BBC on Thursday, Clinton spoke about the toll her job has taken:

[S]ince I am perpetually tired, I figure make up for the lost hours of sleep while flying. Also, I know very simple things – drink a lot of water, deep breathing, try to get a little bit of sunshine if you can every day. But I don’t know that there’s any magic formula. Because I, too, often am tired; there’s no doubt about it. But I’m exhilarated at the same time. I love what we’re doing…

She continued, saying her friends often chime in on how burned out she appears in the news media:

I won’t lie to you. I’m tired. My friends call and email saying, “Oh, my gosh, I saw you on television. You looked so tired.” (Laughter.) Which I send back saying, “Gee, thanks a lot.” But I know, because if you work around the clock like we do, that’s just inevitable.

Clinton said to keep her stamina up, she does breathing exercises as well as yoga.

In March, the 63-year-old political veteran announced she would not return for a second term as Secretary of State. What does she have planned once she exits the playing field?

…I am very interested in spending time with my friends and my family and not being on the merry-go-round all the time, which is one of the reasons why I have decided that I will move on and return to private life at the end of what will be a very intense period of activity and work in the next 18 months.

Happy Birthday Mr. President

Wednesday, August 05, 2009

Cartoons by Michael Ramirez

Today was Barack Obama’s 48th Birthday, making him the 3rd Baby-Boomer President (Boomers are people born between 1946 and 1964). The Obama Team tried hard to present Obama as the first post-boomer president by trying to juggle the boomer dates.

Happy Birthday President Obama. You might think twice about healthcare rationing, because you will be there before you know it. In Britain, people at age 59 are not approved for certain procedures. Hello, 59? Last year we were proud that we had more living Centurions than ever before… and many are still contributing. Now we are contemplating giving all seniors duty to die lectures?!?
