Bad Dreams In The Night

A terrifying new concept has recently reemerged in the global climatology fight and the clarion call is heralded by a book that Zombie just read: The Weather Conspiracy: The Coming of the New Ice Age.

So, let me get this straight… In the 1970′s, we were all going to freeze to death in a new ice age. In the 2000′s, we were going to be baked alive because of global warming. Now – old is new again and we are going to freeze to death once more. Oh, for crap’s sake, make up your minds, why don’t ya? More death, death, doom and death. How trite.

Just another ploy to spread global Marxism – we just HAVE TO do the following (rinse, repeat and gag):

· Increase our reliance on alternative energy sources and stop using so much oil and other carbon-based fuels;

· Adopt energy-efficient practices in all aspects of our lives, however inconvenient;

· Impose punitive taxes on inefficient or polluting activities to discourage them;

· Funnel large sums of money from developed nations like the U.S. to Third World nations;

· In general embrace all environmental causes.

Sound familiar? Al Gore rides again in perpetuity evidently and has mated in an unholy alliance with Cass Sunstein and Progressives worldwide to force us into one global collective hell. Not surprised in the least. Zombie’s view of the whole scenario says it best:

In order to weaken and eventually destroy the existing industrialized nations, we must devise an ecological “crisis” so severe that only voluntary economic suicide can solve it; and if this first crisis doesn’t materialize as planned, then devise another, and another, even if they flatly contradict our previous claims.

These elitists will not stop until they have a crisis that we all must submit to so they can have their way with us and grab the power and fortune they have dreamed of, while putting the riffraff worldwide in their place as subjugates once and for all. A New World Order of slaves and a ruling class – ride the Wayback Machine to medieval times, only on steroids with a heaping side of eugenics for all.

Scientist Tied to Global Warning Being Investigated for ‘Scientific Misconduct’

JUNEAU, Alaska (The Blaze/AP) — A federal wildlife biologist whose observation in 2004 of presumably drowned polar bears in the Arctic helped to galvanize the global warming movement has been placed on administrative leave and is being investigated for scientific misconduct, possibly over the veracity of that article. Newser has more:

Charles Monnett is being investigated for unspecified “integrity issues” apparently linked to his report that polar bears could face an increased threat of death if they’re forced to swim farther as Arctic ice recedes.

Monnett, an Anchorage-based scientist with the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement, or BOEMRE, was told July 18 that he was being put on leave, pending results of an investigation into “integrity issues.” But he has not yet been informed by the inspector general’s office of specific charges or questions related to the scientific integrity of his work, said Jeff Ruch, executive director of Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility.

On Thursday, Ruch‘s watchdog group plans to file a complaint with the agency on Monnett’s behalf, asserting that Obama administration officials have “actively persecuted” him in violation of policy intended to protect scientists from political interference.

Monnett, who has coordinated much of the agency’s research on Arctic wildlife and ecology, has duties that include managing about $50 million worth of studies, according to the complaint, a copy of which was provided to The Associated Press.

The complaint seeks Monnett’s reinstatement along with a public apology from the agency and inspector general. It also seeks to have the investigation dropped or to have the charges specified and the matter carried out in accordance with policy. The complaint also says that investigators took Monnett’s computer hard drive, notebooks and other unspecified items from him, which have not been returned.

A BOEMRE spokeswoman declined to comment on an “ongoing internal investigation.” Ruch said BOEMRE has barred Monnett from talking to reporters.

Documents provided by Ruch’s group indicate questioning by investigators has centered on observations that Monnett and fellow researcher Jeffrey Gleason made in 2004, while conducting an aerial survey of bowhead whales, of four dead polar bears floating in the water after a storm. They detailed their observations in an article published two years later in the journal Polar Biology; presentations also were given at scientific gatherings.

In the peer-reviewed article, the researchers said they were reporting, to the best of their knowledge, the first observations of polar bears floating dead offshore and presumed drowned while apparently swimming long distances in open water. Polar bears are considered strong swimmers, they wrote, but long-distance swims may exact a greater metabolic toll than standing or walking on ice in better weather.

They said their observations suggested the bears drowned in rough seas and high winds and “suggest that drowning-related deaths of polar bears may increase in the future if the observed trend of regression of pack ice and/or longer open water periods continues.”

The article and presentations drew national attention and helped make the polar bear something of a poster child for the global warming movement. Al Gore’s mention of the polar bear in his documentary on climate change, “An Inconvenient Truth,” came up during investigators’ questioning of Gleason in January.

In May 2008, the U.S. classified the polar bear as a threatened species, the first with its survival at risk due to global warming.

According to a transcript, investigator Eric May asked Gleason his thoughts on Gore referencing the dead polar bears. Gleason said none of the polar bear papers he has written or co-authored has said “anything really” about global warming.

“It’s something along the lines of the changing environment in the Arctic,” he said. Gleason said others put their own spin on research or observations.

The complaint alleges Gleason and Monnett were harassed by agency officials and received negative comments from them after the article was published. Gleason eventually took another Interior Department job; he didn‘t respond to an email and a BOEMRE spokeswoman said he wouldn’t be available for comment.

Ruch also claimed the investigation is being done by criminal investigators with no scientific background, even though the case is an administrative matter.

Rino Gingrich is Done Before He Started

Gingrich Backs Obamacare's Individual Mandate Requiring Health Insurance

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Sunday that he strongly supports a federal mandate requiring citizens to buy health insurance – a position that has been rejected by many Republicans, including several who likely will be running against him for the Republican presidential nomination.

Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Gingrich told host David Gregory that he continues to advocate for a plan he first called for in the early 1990s as a Congressman, which requires every uninsured citizen to purchase or acquire health insurance.

Gregory played a clip of Gingrich speaking during an appearance on Meet the Press in October 1993:

“I am for people, individuals -- exactly like automobile insurance -- individuals having health insurance and being required to have health insurance. And I am prepared to vote for a voucher system which will give individuals, on a sliding scale, a government subsidy so we insure that everyone as individuals have health insurance.”

Gregory asked Gingrich if he would criticize GOP presidential rival Mitt Romney, whose "Romneycare" health program enacted during his time as Governor in Massachusetts mandated that all uninsured purchase health insurance.

Gingrich replied he would not make it an issue in the campaign and said he agreed with key aspects of Romneycare.

"I agree that all of us have a responsibility to pay--help pay for health care," Gingrich said, adding, "I've said consistently we ought to have some requirement that you either have health insurance or you post a bond ..."

Gingrich also admitted that his proposal is a "variation" of the individual mandate, a key component of the Obamacare legislation President Obama signed into law in 2010.

The position staked out by Gingrich appears to be at odds with leading conservative critics of Obamacare, who argue that the law requiring citizens to purchase a private insurance policy is not constitutional.

The Obama administration is currently facing three lawsuits arguing that the federal mandate is unconstitutional, including one filed by a coalition of 26 states.

The issue is on track for a Supreme Court decision in the summer of 2012, which would make it a likely hot-button topic heading into the elections.

Conservative GOP critics like Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli say the mandate is unconstitutional because although Congress can regulate commerce, it can’t require people to engage in a particular “economic activity” just because they live in the U.S.

Conservative judicial experts have also taken exception to the claim made by Gingrich and supporters of the Obamacare law that mandating health insurance is the same as the government requirement to purchase car insurance, noting that driving a car is a privilege provided by states and not a constitutional right.

Cucinelli says that "buying auto insurance is voluntary, since you are only required to purchase it if you choose to drive on public roads. But buying health insurance under the new federal law is not voluntary, as you are required to buy it just by virtue of the fact that you are breathing. The federal government has never before in history exercised its regulatory power to require someone to buy a product or service as a condition of residence in the United States."
Gingrich, though, seemed to disagree with that notion on Sunday, though he was quick to point out the differences between his plan and the federal health law.

“In, in the first place, Obama basically is trying to replace the entire insurance system, creating state exchanges, building a Washington-based model, creating a federal system,” Gingrich told NBC’s David Gregory. “I believe all of us--and this is going to be a big debate--I believe all of us have a responsibility to help pay for healthcare …"
Romney has not come under fire for not disowning his health care plan, which has caused private health care insurance rates to skyrocket as patient services have declined in Massachusetts.

Gingrich's position quickly came under fire from several conservative blogs on Sunday.

“He tried to distinguish his mandate from the Obama mandate, but with little success,” the American Federalist Journal wrote on Sunday.
“Sandbagging your fellow Republicans in Congress and offering tacit support for a key (unconstitutional) component of Obamacare is a very strange way to begin a run in a Republican primary. Not a strong start.”

The Wall Street Journal called Gingrich’s description of an ideal healthcare plan with mandates a “pretty good description of what the Democratic Congress passed into law last year."

The Journal continued: "Beginning in 2014, most Americans who don't have insurance will be required to pay a fee, with many, depending on income, getting subsidies to help buy coverage through state-based exchanges.”

The conservative website Red State said Gingrich “won’t exactly endear him to the Tea Party crowd or the reform minded movement sweeping the GOP.”

Traveling to Europe? Not so fast. Most airports in western and central Europe are at best open on an intermittent basis, and at worst completely shut down, with the UK taking the brunt of the storm. Disruptions in traffic continue for a fourth day as travellers across the continent are paralyzed and scrambling to find way to get home, with just 4 days until Christmas. For all those reading Zero Hedge from some airport terminal, our condolences. As always, nothing conveys the story as well as a few simple pictures: we have compiled a representative sample of snapshots from across Europe to show just why all those hoping for a strong holiday retail season in Europe will be very disappointed.

Glenn is very concerned because Al Gore has suddenly vanished from the public scene. It's almost like he's trying to lay low as the country is pounded with massive snowstorms, BUT he could have also been abducted by some deranged psycho. Speaking of deranged, check out this clip from MSNBC where a reporter explains that all the snow doesn't mean less global warming - it is proof of global warming. ( Transcript, Insider Audio) Ironically, President Obama picked this week to announce the formation of a new global warming bureaucracy within the Department of Commerce. The news conference announcing this new “climate service" had to be canceled due to our D.C. area blizzard.

How out of touch is the radical environmental movement that, sadly, has a deep hold on the Obama Administration?

The Department of Commerce news release announcing the new “climate service" actually said the following, "More and more Americans are witnessing the impacts of climate change in their own backyards..."

There's more. The release, paid for with your tax dollars, goes on to say that "People are searching for relevant and timely information about these changes to inform decision making about VIRTUALLY ALL ASPECTS OF THEIR LIVE)." (emphasis added)

But even worse, the Obama Administration, in pursuit of their radical environmental goals, is still pursuing a cap-and-trade agenda that will kill jobs, raise utility bills and gas prices and infringe on our freedoms.

For the last two years, we've fought their radical agenda tooth-and-nail with the help of folks like you. Despite the fact that a Pew Foundation poll showed Americans rank "combating global warming" dead last on their list of priorities, President Obama used his recent State of the Union speech to once again demand passage of his cap-and-trade legislation. They even wrote a blank line in the federal budget labeled "allowance for climate policy" to keep secret how much they plan to tax and spend via cap-and-trade. So, the cap-and-trade fight is not over.

Even worse, Obama is not waiting for Congress. The president is now intent on using the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to bypass Congress and move full steam ahead to enforce the Left's global warming agenda.

Soon after President Obama's election, this un-elected bureaucracy issued a "finding" that greenhouse gas emissions endanger human health and welfare and therefore should be regulated by the EPA. Now, the EPA is moving to impose job-killing, freedom-encroaching regulations and mandates on American businesses - at a time when our economy is desperately struggling to create jobs and rebuild prosperity. Over 40,000 AFP activists put official comments in at the EPA on this issue. But to win, we will have to convince Congress to step in and stop the EPA.

Fortunately, there are now serious bipartisan efforts underway in both the House and Senate to do just that - block the EPA's outrageous global warming power grab and return the power to make our country's laws to Congress. At Americans for Prosperity, we're going to be announcing in the near future an intensive effort to combat this job killing EPA power grab. So stay tuned! The president’s decision to attend the international climate conference in Copenhagen needs to be reconsidered in light of the unfolding Climategate scandal. The leaked e-mails involved in Climategate expose the unscientific behavior of leading climate scientists who deliberately destroyed records to block information requests, manipulated data to “hide the decline” in global temperatures, and conspired to silence the critics of man-made global warming. I support Senator James Inhofe’s call for a full investigation into this scandal. Because it involves many of the same personalities and entities behind the Copenhagen conference, Climategate calls into question many of the proposals being pushed there, including anything that would lead to a cap and tax plan.

Policy should be based on sound science, not snake oil. I took a stand against such snake oil science when I sued the federal government over its decision to list the polar bear as an endangered species despite the fact that the polar bear population has increased. I’ve never denied the reality of climate change; in fact, I was the first governor to create a subcabinet position to deal specifically with the issue. I saw the impact of changing weather patterns firsthand while serving as governor of our only Arctic state. But while we recognize the effects of changing water levels, erosion patterns, and glacial ice melt, we cannot primarily blame man’s activities for the earth’s cyclical weather changes. The drastic economic measures being pushed by dogmatic environmentalists won’t change the weather, but will dramatically change our economy for the worse.

Policy decisions require real science and real solutions, not junk science and doomsday scare tactics pushed by an environmental priesthood that capitalizes on the public’s worry and makes them feel that owning an SUV is a “sin” against the planet. In his inaugural address, President Obama declared his intention to “restore science to its rightful place.” Boycotting Copenhagen while this scandal is thoroughly investigated would send a strong message that the United States government will not be a party to fraudulent scientific practices. Saying no to Copenhagen and cap and tax are first steps in “restoring science to its rightful place.”

SOLAR STICKER SHOCK HITS WASHINGTON COUNTY

Kittitas County, Washington, is experiencing sticker shock for a proposed 75 megawatt solar power plant as the true cost of solar power is coming in at more than three times the promised price, says H. Sterling Burnett, a senior fellow with the National Center for Policy Analysis.

• On July 9, Howard Trott, managing director of Teanaway Solar Reserve, the company proposing the plant, estimated it would cost approximately $100 million to build what would be the largest solar power plant in the world.
• By mid-August, Teanaway revised its estimate to more than $300 million, and other analysts fear the final cost may be much higher still.
• Based on calculations by the Northwest Power and Conservation Council, the price tag of the Teanaway solar power plant would be a minimum of $525 million and could rise as high as $750 million.

The council was established by Congress in 1980 to develop a regionwide electric power plan to guarantee adequate, reliable energy at the lowest economic cost while protecting environmental resources.

Solar power is an expensive alternative source of energy, says Burnett:

• Solar power currently costs three-and-a-half to four times the price of conventional power purchased on the spot market.
• When stripped of subsidies and preferential tax treatment, moreover, solar power is between 570 percent and 887 percent more expensive to produce than coal power, according to a recent study by Tufts University economics professor Gilbert Metcalf.
• Adding to the costs of solar power is the fact that solar panels deliver direct current, while the Northwest power grid uses alternating current.
• Converting from direct to alternating current boosts costs, and power is lost in the process; Trott estimates the loss would be about 2 percent but could be higher.
• In addition, power from solar plants fluctuates with the intensity and amount of sunlight and passing clouds, so the Northwest power grid will have to be upgraded to adjust for such fluctuations.

Environmental Swine

My friend Mary wrote the other day to tell me of her grandfather’s dilemma. He’s involved in important litigation aimed at saving his farm, his family business, and hundreds of agricultural jobs in North Carolina. His problems have been produced by a series of unfortunate events. Among them is a radical environmental movement that cares more about trees and fish than it does about human beings (FULL STORY)

Inhofe: Boxer using 'corporate prostitutes' to sell climate bill

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) is using "corporate prostitutes" to "intimidate" Congress into passing climate change legislation, a key Republican senator said Wednesday.

Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), who is the ranking member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, chided committee chairwoman Boxer's claim that her climate bill would bring billions of dollars in private investments to the economy.

"You can find a few corporate prostitutes out there that stand to make a whole lot of money on this thing," Inhofe told conservative radio host Steve Malzberg today. "What they're trying to do is to intimidate congress into passing it."

The conservative senator argued that Boxer and bill co-sponsor Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) are so intent on passing the bill in order to relieve the inevitable pressure on the White House from people angry about tax increases included in the bill.

"And so the president, Obama, doesn't want people to say 'hey, why did you do this regulation?

You're responsible.' Well, he wants to intimidate us so at that point he can say 'no Congress did it,'" Inhofe said.
Inhofe predicted, however that the bill would not pass Congress.

"It's not going to pass, they don't have the votes," he said, adding that Democratic leaders would unlikely use controversial budget reconciliation tactics to pass cap-and-trade.

Congressional Democratic leaders have threatened to use reconciliation to pass healthcare legislation.

Inhofe predicted that the climate bill would only get 30 votes in the Senate based on his vote count of last year's Warner-Lieberman climate change legislation.

John Kerry: Awesome recession is helping the environment

Democrats’ environmental proposals are an attack on capitalism. That is a fact. But don’t take my word for it. Ask John Kerry.

As often happens when disingenuous people let slip the truth, Kerry admitted in no uncertain terms the other day that he sees economic prosperity as the enemy of the environment, and left no mystery as to which side he takes.

I was for the recession before I was against it.

Kerry and Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-California) have proposed a new draft for a cap-and-trade bill with exceedingly stringent restrictions on carbon emissions. During a hearing on the bill , Kerry made the astounding statement that the recession has been the environment’s best friend, and he couldn’t be happier about it:

Let me emphasize something very strongly as we begin this discussion. The United States has already this year alone achieved a 6 percent reduction in emissions simply because of the downturn in the economy, so we are effectively saying we need to go another 14 percent.

What did Kerry just unwittingly admit? He admitted that cap-and-trade advocates and like-minded global warming believers see economic prosperity as a huge source of the supposed problem. That’s why they’re proposing the perfect solution – from their perspective – in the form of a massive tax increase directly on industry.

Nothing discourages productive economic activity like confiscatory taxes on said activity. The same people who lament the loss of manufacturing jobs in the United States now seek to multiply these losses many times over by making it economically impossible for manufacturers to operate.

The taxes aren’t designed to encourage manufacturers to run cleaner shops. Taxes don’t do that. Technology does that. If the technology was sufficiently mature and affordable, they would have it now. All things being equal, no onewants to pump dirty emissions into the air if given a reasonable alternative.

So when Democrats propose to pressure them into cleaning up their emissions with crippling taxes, it makes about as much sense as when they suggested the Iraqi government was sitting around eating bon-bons while the U.S. did all the heavy lifting, but would surely get serious if the U.S. threatened to leave.

People want to do things that are in their own best interests. You don’t hammer them into doing these things with taxes. Quite the contrary, you try to remove economic barriers that may be preventing them from doing these things.

But that’s not the goal of cap-and-trade supporters. Kerry has given away the game. The goal is less productive economic activity, because the fact of the matter is that productive economic activity produces carbon, and no arrogant member of Congress or anyone else can change that fact.

But the recession, hey, that’s working like a dream. Carbon emissions are down 6 percent. Damn. How many more big industrial conglomerates do we have to put out of business to get to 20 percent?

If they didn’t know full well they were going to kill jobs, they wouldn’t be peddling this “green jobs” nonsense – a notion thoroughly dismantled on Sunday by Bloomberg’s Kevin Hassett.

Cap and trade means a less productive economy, and that’s by design, because a growing private sector economy is the enemy of the Democrats’ political agenda. Their hope, of course, is that all the taxes they can collect will allow them to bestow more largesse on their constituencies with jobs either in the public sector or publicly funded.

This completely ignores, of course, the fact that you can’t keep taxing companies that you put out of business, but Sen. Kerry has never quite closed the logic loop on that one. You need to generate revenue to pay taxes, and you can only do that by running a company profitably. Where does Sen. Kerry think all these rich industrialists got their money? Does he think they either inherited it or married some rich widow?

Maybe someone needs to tell him those avenues aren’t available to everyone.

But if Sen. Kerry doesn’t have the slightest idea how economic value is created, he certainly seems to know how to destroy it, and as he has just acknowledged, he apparently can’t wait to get right to it.

Update: John Holdren, President Obama’s top advisor on science issues, agrees. Or at least he did in 1977, when he wrote a textbook with fellow traveler Paul Ehrlich titled “Ecoscience,” in which he explicitly called for zero economic growth. CNS News dug this up back in July.

People can change their minds about things in 32 years, of course. Maybe someone should ask Holdren if he’s changed his. If so, perhaps he could go have a talk with John Kerry.

Scientist: Global Warming Claims a Lot of Hype

Lawmakers who described the alleged effects of global warming are spreading a lot of "eye wash," a top climate scientist says.

In an exclusive interview with Newsmax, S. Fred Singer, a renowned climatologist and professor of environmental sciences emeritus at the University of Virginia, discussed the background behind the recent open letter to Congress he and six other scientists sent to members of the House and Senate.

In the letter, the scientists cited a letter sent by the Woods Hole Research Center, which exhorted Congress to act quickly to avoid a global disaster due to alleged global warming.

Singer said the Woods Hole group “put on a sort of scary exaggerated kind of letter to Congress ahead of the vote in the House in an obvious attempt to stampede them into voting for the Waxman-Markey [cap and trade environmental] bill.

Singer explained: “We thought it would be useful to write a letter that would provide a balance. The instigator of the letter was Harold Lewis, a retired professor of physics at the University of California in Santa Barbara.” Lewis, he said, “provided the initial draft, several of us made comments and seven of us signed our names to it."

Lewis sent the letter "to every member of Congress ... and it was also sent to a number of bloggers and others who are generally sympathetic" to the group’s point of view.

“The letter itself is self-explanatory,” Singer said, noting that it did not “give much detail."

“Two of us, Richard Lindzen and myself, are actively working on climate issues. The others are renowned physicists – people of some stature, members of the National Academy and others who have a good amount of scientific judgment but who have not directly published or been pre-eminent in climate research.”

Asked if it is not established that the earth is cooling, Singer explained that “The earth is either always warming or cooling; one cannot tell which it is unless one specifies the time interval.

“It's like the stock market: it is rising or falling. Both depend on whether it's a week or a month or a year. It's the same with the temperature – if we start during the last Ice Age 15,000 years ago, then the temperatures have warmed. If you start from the Little Ice Age, which ended 200 years ago, it certainly has warmed.

“If you start from 1998, however, then it has not warmed – it has cooled. So it depends on the time interval. People argue about this, and much of the difference between groups comes about when you don't specify the time interval. There's no question that the climate has not been warming in the last 10 years."

Reminded that there were members of Congress standing up in the debate and talking about the terrible things that are happening now as a result of global warming, Singer said: “That's all eye wash. That's not true. That's simply hype.”

He went on to explain that “Nothing untoward is happening. The ice is not melting any faster, the sea level is not rising any faster. Hurricanes are not increasing in intensity or frequency; there's been no impact. Those things are always hard to measure. It depends on statistics. The easiest thing is to specify temperature, because it's easily measured and there is relatively little disagreement on what temperature stands for.”

He then went on to challenge what he called former Vice President Al Gore’s “mantra” that he says Gore’s "been handing out for years now – that the science is settled. That is simply not true.

“When you have 31,000 scientists signing the Oregon petition saying they disagree with the current wisdom that humans are producing increased warming, it speaks for itself. It's true that the 31,000 are not all climate scientists. There are not that many in the world.

“However, it does show you that the science is not settled. Among climate scientists there is a split. There are those who believe in models, and those who believe in observations. And there are some who don't believe in both, and some who don't believe in any.

“The modelers believe that the models correctly describe what's going on in the atmosphere, and they trust their models to predict the future. And the models all predict increased global warming. Some more, some less. There are plenty models in the world, and they all get different results. We don't know which one of them is correct, if any, or even if any of them is correct.

Then there are those – sometimes called the skeptics, but we prefer to call them the realists – who believe in the observations, who believe that the atmosphere tells us what's going on. The models try to describe what's going on in the atmosphere, but they don't succeed. It's extremely difficult – the atmosphere is very complicated. For example, the models can't really describe clouds. Yet clouds are very, very important. So that's the basic split.

“When the observations show that the climate has not been warming in the last 10 years, which contradicts the models, who are you going to believe? The models or the observations. Obviously, we believe in the observations.

“When you ask the other side to debate on this issue they either won't debate; or if they do debate, they say, ‘Well there must be something wrong with the observations.'”

Singer agreed that it is a case of "do you believe what the models tell you, or do you believe in your lying eyes?"

The Letter – Sent to Glenn Beck

The American Dream Is Over Unless Average Americans Stand-Up… Starting Today!!

GLENN: I got a letter from a man in Arizona. He writes an open letter to our nation's leadership: I'm a home grown American citizen, 53, registered Democrat all my life. Before the last presidential election I registered as a Republican because I no longer felt the Democratic Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. Now I no longer feel the Republican Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. The fact is I no longer feel any political party or representative in Washington represents my views or works to pursue the issues important to me. There must be someone. Please tell me who you are. Please stand up and tell me that you are there and that you're willing to fight for our Constitution as it was written. Please stand up now. You might ask yourself what my views and issues are that I would horribly feel so disenfranchised by both major political parties. What kind of nut job am I? Will you please tell me?

Well, these are briefly my views and issues for which I seek representation:

One, illegal immigration. I want you to stop coddling illegal immigrants and secure our borders. Close the underground tunnels. Stop the violence and the trafficking in drugs and people. No amnesty, not again. Been there, done that, no resolution. P.S., I'm not a racist. This isn't to be confused with legal immigration.

Two, the TARP bill, I want it repealed and I want no further funding supplied to it. We told you no, but you did it anyway. I want the remaining unfunded 95% repealed. Freeze, repeal.

Three: Czars, I want the circumvention of our checks and balances stopped immediately. Fire the czars. No more czars. Government officials answer to the process, not to the president. Stop trampling on our Constitution and honor it.

Four, cap and trade. The debate on global warming is not over. There is more to say.

Five, universal healthcare. I will not be rushed into another expensive decision. Don't you dare try to pass this in the middle of the night and then go on break. Slow down!

Six, growing government control. I want states rights and sovereignty fully restored. I want less government in my life, not more. Shrink it down. Mind your own business. You have enough to take care of with your real obligations. Why don't you start there.

Seven, ACORN. I do not want ACORN and its affiliates in charge of our 2010 census. I want them investigated. I also do not want mandatory escrow fees contributed to them every time on every real estate deal that closes. Stop the funding to ACORN and its affiliates pending impartial audits and investigations. I do not trust them with taking the census over with our taxpayer money. I don't trust them with our taxpayer money. Face up to the allegations against them and get it resolved before taxpayers get any more involved with them. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, hello. Stop protecting your political buddies. You work for us, the people. Investigate.

Eight, redistribution of wealth. No, no, no. I work for my money. It is mine. I have always worked for people with more money than I have because they gave me jobs. That is the only redistribution of wealth that I will support. I never got a job from a poor person. Why do you want me to hate my employers? Why ‑‑ what do you have against shareholders making a profit?

Nine, charitable contributions. Although I never got a job from a poor person, I have helped many in need. Charity belongs in our local communities, where we know our needs best and can use our local talent and our local resources. Butt out, please. We want to do it ourselves.

Ten, corporate bailouts. Knock it off. Sink or swim like the rest of us. If there are hard times ahead, we'll be better off just getting into it and letting the strong survive. Quick and painful. Have you ever ripped off a Band‑Aid? We will pull together. Great things happen in America under great hardship. Give us the chance to innovate. We cannot disappoint you more than you have disappointed us.

Eleven, transparency and accountability. How about it? No, really, how about it? Let's have it. Let's say we give the buzzwords a rest and have some straight honest talk. Please try ‑‑ please stop manipulating and trying to appease me with clever wording. I am not the idiot you obviously take me for. Stop sneaking around and meeting in back rooms making deals with your friends. It will only be a prelude to your criminal investigation. Stop hiding things from me.

Twelve, unprecedented quick spending. Stop it now.

Take a breath. Listen to the people. Let's just slow down and get some input from some nonpoliticians on the subject. Stop making everything an emergency. Stop speed reading our bills into law. I am not an activist. I am not a community organizer. Nor am I a terrorist, a militant or a violent person. I am a parent and a grandparent. I work. I'm busy. I'm busy. I am busy, and I am tired. I thought we elected competent people to take care of the business of government so that we could work, raise our families, pay our bills, have a little recreation, complain about taxes, endure our hardships, pursue our personal goals, cut our lawn, wash our cars on the weekends and be responsible contributing members of society and teach our children to be the same all while living in the home of the free and land of the brave.

I entrusted you with upholding the Constitution. I believed in the checks and balances to keep from getting far off course. What happened? You are very far off course. Do you really think I find humor in the hiring of a speed reader to unintelligently ramble all through a bill that you signed into law without knowing what it contained? I do not. It is a mockery of the responsibility I have entrusted to you. It is a slap in the face. I am not laughing at your arrogance. Why is it that I feel as if you would not trust me to make a single decision about my own life and how I would live it but you should expect that I should trust you with the debt that you have laid on all of us and our children. We did not want the TARP bill. We said no. We would repeal it if we could. I am sure that we still cannot. There is such urgency and recklessness in all of the recent spending.

From my perspective, it seems that all of you have gone insane. I also know that I am far from alone in these feelings. Do you honestly feel that your current pursuits have merit to patriotic Americans? We want it to stop. We want to put the brakes on everything that is being rushed by us and forced upon us. We want our voice back. You have forced us to put our lives on hold to straighten out the mess that you are making. We will have to give up our vacations, our time spent with our children, any relaxation time we may have had and money we cannot afford to spend on you to bring our concerns to Washington. Our president often knows all the right buzzword is unsustainable. Well, no kidding. How many tens of thousands of dollars did the focus group cost to come up with that word? We don't want your overpriced words. Stop treating us like we're morons.

We want all of you to stop focusing on your reelection and do the job we want done, not the job you want done or the job your party wants done. You work for us and at this rate I guarantee you not for long because we are coming. We will be heard and we will be represented. You think we're so busy with our lives that we will never come for you? We are the formerly silent majority, all of us who quietly work , pay taxes, obey the law, vote, save money, keep our noses to the grindstone and we are now looking up at you. You have awakened us, the patriotic spirit so strong and so powerful that it had been sleeping too long. You have pushed us too far. Our numbers are great. They may surprise you. For every one of us who will be there, there will be hundreds more that could not come. Unlike you, we have their trust. We will represent them honestly, rest assured. They will be at the polls on voting day to usher you out of office. We have cancelled vacations. We will use our last few dollars saved. We will find the representation among us and a grassroots campaign will flourish. We didn't ask for this fight. But the gloves are coming off. We do not come in violence, but we are angry. You will represent us or you will be replaced with someone who will. There are candidates among us when he will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes that you have made of our constitution.

Democrat, Republican, independent, libertarian. Understand this. We don't care. Political parties are meaningless to us. Patriotic Americans are willing to do right by us and our Constitution and that is all that matters to us now. We are going to fire all of you who abuse power and seek more. It is not your power. It is ours and we want it back. We entrusted you with it and you abused it. You are dishonorable. You are dishonest. As Americans we are ashamed of you. You have brought shame to us. If you are not representing the wants and needs of your constituency loudly and consistently, in spite of the objections of your party, you will be fired. Did you hear? We no longer care about your political parties. You need to be loyal to us, not to them. Because we will get you fired and they will not save you. If you do or can represent me, my issues, my views, please stand up. Make your identity known. You need to make some noise about it. Speak up. I need to know who you are. If you do not speak up, you will be herded out with the rest of the sheep and we will replace the whole damn congress if need be one by one. We are coming. Are we coming for you? Who do you represent? What do you represent? Listen. Because we are coming. We the people are coming.

Glenn Beck Dines with George Soros on Earth Day... Sorta

GLENN: From Radio City in Midtown Manhattan, this is the third most listened to show in all of America. Hello, you sick twisted freak. Welcome to the program. Glad you're here. So I had dinner last night and I had this big business meeting. I went to dinner, and I go to this place. I've never been there before. Really good restaurant, and I walk in and I'm like, oh, jeez, this is one of those snotty places. I hate those places, you know, where everybody where you've got like 400 waiters and then you're like, I don't know. Because you're like, I don't know what the tip can I just leave you a 5? What do I so anyway, we go to this place and George Soros sits right behind me. 

STU: (Laughing). 

GLENN: Yeah. The waiter comes up and luckily I really thought, when I walked in I thought, oh, it's one of those snotty places. Because it wasn't somebody was taking me to dinner. And so I go to this place and my wife is waiting for me and I'm like, honey, I've got to go to this dinner. So I'm just like, okay, let's go to dinner. And I get there and I walk in and, you know, they made me take off my Converse sneakers before I went and I'm like, why? I always wear Converse. And they're like, Glenn, you don't understand this restaurant. I'm like, oh, no! And I walk in, but the waiters are really, really cool. You know, the waiters are just like, hey, let me tell you something. Let me tell you what's going on. And then when they get to the table, they're like, so we have some nice fish for you? So anyway, the waiters come up, and when I'm in the appetizer, one of them leans down and he says, so how is everything with the appetizer, Mr. Beck? Do you like it? George Soros is hitting right behind you. Is everything a ll right? And I said, you've got to be kidding me. And he said, no. So I did, you know, he walks away and I'm like doing the yawn thing. I'm like, oh, my gosh: It's George Soros. 

STU: You're telling me that you had dinner on Earth Day. 

GLENN: On Earth Day. 

STU: With George Soros. 

GLENN: With George Soros well, not really with George Soros, but let's just say a couple of things. First of all, if you're invested in things that he's invested in and he's got anything to do with running things, you might want to reconsider that. He doesn't look well. It's like he had just like a touch of the Ebola virus. You know, when I looked at him, I turn around and I look at him and I'm like, oh, my gosh. You know, I wanted the waiter to go up, "Could I get you another cocktail or maybe a trip to the hospital?" I mean, he really 

STU: Well, there's a lot of pressure in running the entire world. 

GLENN: I know. He's got to tell the president what to do and everything else. So it's really but he didn't look a touch of the Ebola, his eyes were all red, I mean like blood shooting out of them red. I really thought it was like a I don't know. It was like, you know, a statue of the Madonna where she's, you know, crying blood and stuff in those horror movies. That's what it was like. 

STU: Is it possible he got Earth day confused with 4/20? 

GLENN: May have. It was really red, Stu. I really think he may have had to dab his eyes just a little bit from the blood. Have you ever seen that James Bond movie from the guy who was playing poker?

GLENN: Yeah, it was kind of like that. It was like, okay, he's bleeding from his eyes; that's spooky. And he's George Soros. Double spookout! 

STU: Now, did he order meat? Because as we know, it's bad for the environment.

GLENN: I didn't ask. 

STU: It's worse than transportation. 

GLENN: I didn't ask. 

STU: For the globe. 

GLENN: I didn't ask. 

STU: I'd like to know that. 

GLENN: Yeah, I didn't ask. I wasn't facing him. I should have asked. I should have asked. I wasn't facing him. So I don't know because I was just catching glimpses. Didn't look good. But what the nice thing was, as soon as I found that out, my table started talking about global warming. Wow, this global warming thing sure is a scam, huh? Whoa. I mean, think about all the money that's being poured into global warming campaigns, and the poll numbers on it just keep going down.

GLENN: I'm just glad I don't have any money in that because, boy, that's a scam. Yeah, I was just trying to see I'd look at the waiter. 

STU: If you do nothing else in your career but ruin one George Soros dinner, I think I 

GLENN: May I say I can die a happy man today. I can die a happy man today. You know what matters, well, media doesn't matter. Media doesn't matter. Oh, wow. Move on! 

So anyway, then I get home and my wife says, you got an e mail from somebody. They want you to see something. And it's, I think it was from Media Matters. Did you see this, Stu? It was an alert that Media Matters put out that I had threatened somebody's life to kill them on the show last night? 

STU: Really? 

GLENN: Yeah. You didn't see this? 

STU: No. 

GLENN: Oh, you have to see this. Did you see the show last night? I know you were getting ready. You were part of the show last night. 

STU: No. 

GLENN: Yeah. I had the fluorescent light bulb. 

STU: No, I didn't hear. I was listening, but what happened? 

GLENN: Well, I took Oscar, who's one of the cameramen. 

STU: Yeah. 

GLENN: And I took Oscar. I said, come here, Oscar, right at the top of the show. He wouldn't leave his camera and I'm like, come here. So he left the camera and he came over to me, I grabbed him around the neck and I took the light bulb and I said, I mean it, man, I'll kill him right now! I mean it! I got a light bulb and I'll kill him right now! They put an alert out like I'm serious. These guys are so 

STU: What a humorless group. 

GLENN: Just, I mean and so I wish I would have known that while Soros was sitting behind me so I could say look what your people are doing. They're destroying their own credibility, of which they have none. They're destroying their do you know how much money you're wasting with these clowns? 

STU: Well, yeah. You're just destroying credibility for these people. It's like what you were talking about with negative interest rates. You really can't go below zero, can you? 

GLENN: I think they're trying. I do think they're trying. 

STU: Well, I mean, I was put in an unhealthy work environment last night because you forced me to break 

GLENN: Stu, I am not kidding you. They actually gave me a warning prior to. I mean, how big is our studio? 

STU: Very it's a large studio. 

GLENN: 2,000, 3,000 square feet? 

STU: Probably, yeah. 

GLENN: So it's a very large studio, but we're in you know, because of this studio, we're in the inside of the building. There are no windows or anything else. There's only two exits and there's no windows. And so we're in this gigantic space. There's probably eight of us on the floor at all times, and the director came to me, in all seriousness came to me prior to. 

Now, remember this is Fox. So you can imagine what, like, crazy networks would, what kind of they would never let you walk out on a stage with a fluorescent light bulb. 

STU: Right. 

GLENN: They came to me and they said, "Listen. There is a mask for you on the stage in case this does break. Please don't break this, but there is a mask on stage for you because if you drop it, you'd be the closest. Please put your mask on right away." And I went, "Yeah, right, I'm going to do that." And he just looked at me like, I ain't joking. And I said, it's a light bulb. And he said, listen, I've already instructed the crew, if you drop this, you're to put your mask on, they're to open up wide, leave the cameras on and leave the floor. 

STU: That's unbelievable. 

GLENN: Unbelievable, unbelievable. 

STU: As you were talking and doing monologues, I was getting in my ear, look, are we sure we're okay with dropping this thing? I want to make sure that we done have any incidents here. I want to make sure everyone around you is safe. I'm like, what do you think I'm going to do? Throw it at a passerby? 

GLENN: Did you see the people? They were outside and the people had to wear a mask. 

STU: Yeah. You know, the crew and stuff was all lining up. Like they were, like, actually looking I swear this is true looking at the flags and making sure they didn't stand downwind. 

GLENN: Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Fox was not screwing around. 

STU: They were not kidding. And I told them, I'm like, if you've ever seen 40 Year Old Virgin, in that movie they are all just sitting out behind, you know, the Circuit City type store and they've got those long tubular fluorescent lights and they are just bashing them over each other as a joke. I mean, you know, I know it's bad and everything else but to me, I don't think I actually took a legitimate risk but then I come in this morning and Joe is telling me about some special filter they had on the camera. Did you see this? This special 

GLENN: Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's unbelievable. I saw this. Oscar showed it to me. 

STU: This is not 

GLENN: When they blew when you took the light bulb and you smashed it, we're talking about again good for the environment fluorescent light bulbs, the ones that now by 2012 you, unless you've done what I've done I'm not burying gold. I'm not burying food. I'm stocking up on incandescent light bulbs. You're going to have to have these fluorescent light bulbs because they're better for the environment. That's what we're talking about, fluorescent light bulbs. When they broke it and we went into break, Oscar, the cameraman, he said to me, he said, "Glenn, come here for a second." And Joe, our researcher and attorney, was standing there with him. And he said, Glenn, you won't believe this. They had some special filter on the lens or something that could show all of and for some reason or another you could only see it in this weird blue screen or reverse. I don't remember what it was. So we couldn't show it on television. But it was some sort of a filter that could show all of the pieces, everything that had shattered, everything that had come out of that light bulb. You could see it on the screen. And Stu, you were covered in it, cove red in it. It was like, the ground, if anybody saw the show last night, you saw just a few pieces and you spent all the time cleaning it up. It looked like it was a pile of snow. You couldn't see the ground in that area around the light bulb. It was amazing, amazing. 

STU: Really creepy green CSI. 

GLENN: Yeah, yeah. It was incredible. 

STU: As we were doing some of the notes for that segment, I pulled out a couple of things we didn't get to on the air, that Maine has an acceptable mercury standard of 300 nanograms per cubic meter, okay? 300. In their tests they hit levels of 25,000, sometimes over this is a quote sometimes over 50,000 and possibly over 100,000 from the breakage of a single CFL. That's more than 300 times the acceptable standards. And they go on to say that the procedures, when they did all these cleaning procedures that I did last night, eight of them you saw how ridiculous. It seems so futile. Like they wouldn't even I had to use tape to pick up pieces of glass. 

GLENN: If you saw the filter on the camera, you wouldn't pick it up with your hands, either. 

STU: Yeah. 

GLENN: I mean, if you did you know, everybody just vacuums them up, just vacuums it up? That stuff is in you better throw your dust buster away. 

STU: And they said literally if you get it on your clothes, don't wash them in the sink, don't put them in the washing machine. Throw them out. Literally says throw them out. 

GLENN: If you saw you know what 

STU: I've got to see these somehow. 

GLENN: I have to break another one. I've got to take a picture of that picture. It was almost like an oscilloscope. You know what an oscilloscope is? It was almost like that. I mean, it was black and white. It was I don't know how to describe it, but it was incredible. 

STU: This is and they said the State of Maine did a lot of studies on this and they said if you follow all the procedures that I did, all eight steps, it will produce visibly this is a quote visibly clean flooring surfaces for both wood and carpets but all types of flooring surfaces tested can retain mercury surfaces when visibly clean at levels more than 150 times acceptable. This has, quote, particular significance for children rolling around on the floor, babies crawling or nonmobile infants placed on the floor. So pick it up with tape; don't roll your baby infant around to pick up the pieces of glass. I guess that's but I mean, that's significant. 

GLENN: Yeah. 

STU: You are talking 150 to 300 times acceptable levels from one bulb? 

GLENN: You know, can I tell you something? Years ago I broke a thermometer. 

STU: Really? 

GLENN: Yeah, broke a thermometer. 

STU: Because that's even more serious, I guess. 

GLENN: That's actual mercury. 

STU: Mercury all over the floor. 

GLENN: Yeah, but it all pools up. It's pretty cool to play with. Anyway, so cleaned it up and, you know, know it went into the wood floor because you had a little spot of you know, it just kind of discolored the floor. Oh, well. 

STU: What are you going to do. 

GLENN: Oh, well. If you told the state that that happened, oh, my gosh, you'd have to, you know, get rid of that floor, everything else. There's no way you could if I would have done that in a public place, there's no way. They would have quarantined that room, they would have taken up the floor. There's no way you could have done it. You know what? We all survive; let it go. 

STU: Well, you think that now. 

GLENN: I might I've either got mercury poisoning or I've got what George Soros had. Whew, he didn't look good. 

So anyway, the great thing is if you look at the light bulb segment that we did, Stu had to go and drive to a recycling center to get rid of the light bulb and all of the stuff that he used to clean it up. He had to put it in a glass jar. Now, how good is a glass jar for recycling? What are they going to do? They're going to go in a landfill. They're going to crush it. 

STU: Yeah, and one of the big things in reading this report was the way you dispose of it at the end, it's still, no matter what you do, it still lets off some mercury. 

GLENN: And did you see that on the bulb, I checked, it had a caution I love the caution that it had on the bulb that you broke? Did you read those cautions? 

STU: No. 

GLENN: On the caution it says do not oh, I wish I had the exact phrase. Caution: Do not install something like where there is a direct line of water or something where it can be oh, so I shouldn't put this in my shower drain? Are we this stupid? 

And then the other thing was it said underneath, made in China. These are made in China. Regular light bulbs are made here in Kentucky. Incandescent light bulbs are made here in the United States. So you're telling me that buying these things in China, putting them on a giant freighter ship, dodging pirates, you know those. They're feeding those slave children in China mercury: Here, have some more mercury in your soup, kids. You know that's going on. There's no standards over there. They put them on a train, they ship them to the sea yards, they then put them onto a cargo ship, ship it around the world to us and this is better? As I said last night, what is global warming? That's a total scam, isn't it? Is he bleeding from his eyes yet?
