Thoughts on Syria… From All Sides

This Is About Destroying Sovereignty’: Beck Examines Potential Syria Strike Through the Eyes of a ‘Radical Leftist’

Many have been alarmed by the rapid escalation in Syria this week after years of horrific violence. With the reported use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime, U.S. officials say America could begin missile strikes within the week.

But why now? What exactly do we hope to achieve?

Glenn Beck: Intervention in Syria Is About Controlling the World After

(Photo: TheBlaze TV)

Glenn Beck tackled the issue on his television program Wednesday evening, arguing that the focus of the administration may not be on the war itself — but on the subsequent layout of the world.

“This administration knows that we are on the brink of World War III. The global economy is fragile, global stability is weak, the west is on the edge, it’s only a matter of time before it crumbles,” he said. “Iran will eventually lose any remaining restraint and go after Israel, Syria starts spilling across the border… When it all falls apart and the west is so weakened, who puts it all back together again?”

“War is — after a long period of just running things into the ground — war makes the people of the world forget what the world was like before the war,” Beck continued. “Beyond that, history shows us that war also changes all the players. It changes borders, it changes everything…”

He speculated that after a period of violence, we will “gather at the U.N. because we have to stop an international crisis, and everything is teetering on the edge, and people will cry out, ‘stop the madness!’ And so we do, the international way.”

If we’re not listening to China now, Beck said he guarantees we’ll listen to them at the bargaining table, and we’ll concede. If they say, for instance, we’ll forgive your debts if you just sign the U.N. Arms Treaty, we will.

“This is about destroying sovereignty,” Beck asserted. “The United Nations will, in the end, broker the deal, making them the new superpower and making us just one of the guys. That’s what everybody wants, for the United States just to be average, just like everybody else…”

Considering alternate explanations, Beck said he can think of “a million reasons” why we shouldn’t intervene, “and not one why we should.”

Intervention, he said, will further destabilize Syria, further destabilize the region, and will likely impact our gas prices and the stock market.

If we are intervening purely for humanitarian purposes, why didn’t we intervene sooner? Why don’t we intervene in other cases of mass slaughter? And if the tipping point is truly chemical weapons, Beck asked if you trust the intelligence community more or less than the last time they claimed there were weapons of mass destruction?

Remember the guy who cut his enemy’s heart out and ate it, Beck added? “We’re on his side now.”

The list goes on, Beck said, including the financial cost of the endeavor and the possibility of dragging us into another war we don’t have the energy or resources for.

“Syria is not about teaching Assad a lesson. Two days of bombing probably won’t even seem out of place in Syria today, unfortunately,” he concluded. “Syria is not a response to the shock and horror of murder — hundreds of thousands have died… Syria is this — it is a sick opportunity for the globalist progressive revolutionaries in our own administration and all around the globe to remold the world closer to their heart’s desire.”

Two Minds on Syria

The New Yorker: So it looks like we’re going to bomb Assad.

Good.

Really? Why good?

Did you see the videos of those kids? I heard that ten thousand people were gassed. Hundreds of them died. This time, we have to do something.

Yes, I saw the videos.

And you don’t want to pound the shit out of him?

I want to pound the shit out of him.

But you think we shouldn’t do anything.

I didn’t say that. But I want you to explain what we’re going to achieve by bombing.

We’re going to let Assad know that chemical weapons are over the line. There’s a reason they’ve been illegal since Verdun or whenever.

Except when Saddam used them against the Kurds—we knew, and we didn’t say a word.

Is that a reason to let Assad use them against his people?

At this point, I don’t think Assad is too worried about the Geneva Conventions.

He should have to think hard before using them again.

He’s a bloody dictator fighting for survival. He’s going to do whatever he has to do.

Not if we really hurt him. Not if we pound his communications centers, his air-force bases, key government installations. He’ll be more likely to survive if he doesn’t use chemical weapons.

Killing civilians while we’re at it.

These would be very specific targets.

The wrong people always get killed.

Maybe. Probably. But if you were a Syrian being bombed by Assad every day, trying to keep your head down and your family alive, wouldn’t you want the world to respond, even if a few more people die? I think so.

Easy for you to say.

Hey, can we not personalize this?

Weren’t you just saying that I don’t care about dying children? (Pause.) So you want us to get involved in their civil war.

I’m not saying that.

But that’s what we’ll be doing. Intervening on the rebel side, tipping the balance in their favor.

Not necessarily. We’ll be drawing a line that says dictators don’t get to use W.M.D.s without consequences.

You can’t bomb targets on one side of a civil war without helping the other side.

It would be very temporary. We’d send Assad a clear message, and then we’d step back and let them go on fighting. We’re not getting involved any deeper than that, because I know what you’re going to say—

The rebels are a bunch of infighting, disorganized, jihadist thugs, and we can’t trust any of them.

I’m not saying we should.

And what do we do if Assad retaliates against Israel or Turkey? Or if he uses nerve gas somewhere else?

We hit him again.

And it escalates.

Not if we restrict it to cruise missiles and air strikes.

Now you’re scaring me. Have you forgotten Iraq?

Not for a single minute.

My point is that you can’t restrict it. You can’t use force for limited goals. You need to know what you’ll do after his next move, and the move after that.

It only escalates if we allow ourselves to get dragged in deeper. Kosovo didn’t escalate.

This isn’t Kosovo. The Syrian rebels aren’t the K.L.A. Assad isn’t Milosevic. Putin isn’t Yeltsin. This is far worse. Kosovo became a U.N. protectorate. That’s not going to happen in Syria.

You think Putin is going to risk a military confrontation with the U.S. and Europe?

I think Russia isn’t going to let Assad go down. Neither is Iran or Hezbollah. So they’ll escalate. This could be the thing that triggers an Israel-Iran war, and how do we stay out of that? My God, it feels like August, 1914.

That was a hundred years ago. Stop with the historical analogies.

You’re the one who brought up Verdun. And Kosovo.

I brought up Kosovo because you brought up Iraq. That’s the problem with these arguments. Iraq! Vietnam! Valley Forge! Agincourt! People resort to analogies so they don’t have to think about the matter at hand.

And because they don’t know anything about the matter at hand.

I know what I saw in those videos.

Thank God Obama doesn’t make foreign policy that way. He knows what he doesn’t know about Syria. He’s always thinking a few steps ahead. He’s not going to get steamrolled by John McCain and Anderson Cooper.

At a certain point, caution is another word for indecisiveness. Obama looks weak! Or worse—indifferent. Anyway, he should have thought ahead when he called chemical weapons a “red line.” He set that trap a year ago, and now we’re in it.

Why does it have to be a trap?

Because our credibility is on the line.

Thank you, Dr. Kissinger.

See, that’s another thing people do in these arguments.

What?

“You sound like so-and-so.” It shouldn’t matter who else is on your side. I mean, you’re in bed with Rand Paul. Anyway, credibility matters even if Kissinger said so. You have to do what you say you’re going to do, especially with bullies.

I don’t think Obama committed himself to any one course of action. But if he does bomb them, we’re involved in that war, and I sure hope his advisers have thought through all the potential consequences better than you have.

Inaction has consequences, too. Assad gases more people, the death toll hits two hundred thousand, the weapons get into Hezbollah’s hands, Iran moves ahead with its nuclear program, the Syrian rebels disintegrate and turn to international terrorism, the whole region goes up in sectarian flames.

And how does firing cruise missiles at Damascus prevent any of this?

It doesn’t. But, look, all of this is already happening with us sitting it out. If we put a gun to Assad’s head, we might be able to have more influence over the outcome. At least we can prevent him from winning.

A violent stalemate. How wonderful for the Syrians. Some people think that’s the best solution for us.

I’m not saying that.

What are you saying?

I don’t know. I had it worked out in my head until we started talking. (Pause.) But we need to do something this time.

Not just to do something.

All right. Not just to do something. But could you do me a favor?

What’s that?

While you’re doing nothing, could you please be unhappy about it?

I am.

Ah, yes...President Obama is steaming mad since the Brits and French backed out of his little Syrian adventure, and he saying he's fully prepared to go it alone.

He even sent another American ship towards Syria, a destroyer escort. The Russians already have a fleet of warships headed that way.

So what happened?  There is very little support by Americans to enter the Syrian Civil War… In a new HuffPo poll, conducted after U.S. officials claimed Syria's government killed thousands of civilians with chemical weapons, shows 25 percent of Americans now support air strikes to aid rebels in Syria, while 41 percent said they are opposed. Another 34 percent said that they're not sure.  Germany I also a thumbs down along with Britain and France.

The only logical conclusion is that the truth about the scandals Obama is attempting to divert attention from, by getting involved in Syria, are probably a lot worse than any of us thought.  Time for more investigation!!

CLINT EASTWOOD Slams Obama on Benghazi Massacre: “There Should Have Been an Attempt” to Save the Men (Video)

The liberal media is not be reporting on the Benghazi scandal – But the word is spreading around…  Clint Eastwood slammed Barack Obama for not attempting to save the American heroes in Benghazi on 9-11:

“I find myself being very resentful about this whole thing in Benghazi. That’s been kind of a tragedy that should have never happened. Or there should have been an attempt. All that you can ask is when there is a crisis like that is to make an attempt. That is the American way.”

Clint Eastwood was on with Sean Hannity Thursday 11.01.12.

It now looks like Obama never gave the order to save the heroes in Benghazi.  They called for help – Obama did nothing.

Benghazi Alert: How Can Americans Trust a Commander in Chief Like This… With Our Country… Our Lives… Our Children and Grandchildren? We Cannot!

Although many realized immediately that Benghazi was a terrorist attack and that the Obama administration knew about the attacks on 9/11 within hours if not beforehand, but the day after the last presidential debate of 2012, and every day since, we have learned of emails and additional details that broke the news definitively that the Obama administration watched our Embassy being attacked and our Ambassador and 3 other Americans being murdered in real time, yet they told groups and people who could have helped to stand down.  We also now know definitively that President Obama and Hillary Clinton lied to the American people as well as to the the parents of those killed in Benghazi… and that presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who was vilified by the Obama administration over his comments on the event, was right.

Video:  Leaks, Lies, Libya…Lack of Leadership

If there was any question that President Obama was an amateur, incompetent or had no problem lying to the American people this event answers those questions and doubts.  President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s entire foreign policy has unraveled before our eyes since 9/11/2012.  If it was not so close to an election, they should be impeached… recalled… fired. But with election of 2012 being less than two weeks away, these events should seal the deal… yet the mainstream media is still protecting the president.

Senator McCain says Obama’s Libya handling is either a ‘massive coverup’ or gross incompetence verifying that President Obama is The Amateur many have accused him of being or The Great Destroyer believed of him by others.  Either way America is in trouble and we cannot survive another four years with Barack Hussein Obama at the helm.

Wake-up America… we cannot have a Commander in Chief (or a secretary of state) who watches Americans being killed in real time and does nothing, and then lies about it over and over again.  If America does not elect Mitt Romney after these events, on top of everything else we know… and don’t know about this president, there aren’t words to describe what history will say about us! Team Obama is doing everything possible to keep Benghazigate from unraveling before the election and the lap dog media is juggling for positions to help him, but thanks to Fox News, insiders and Charles Woods, the father of murdered Tyrone Woods, the truth is out there for those paying attention.  Help get the word out.  America’s life as a free and great nation and your children and grandchildren’s freedoms depend on Romney-Ryan winning on November 6th, 2012!

Saxby Chambliss Slams White House for Libya Emails

hn_libya1_092712[1]

Politico (By KATIE GLUECK | 10/24/12 7:17 AM EDT):

A senior senator slammed the Obama administration on Wednesday and called for additional hearings on Libya after emails surfaced showing that White House officials knew within hours that an Islamic militant group was taking responsibility for the attacks on the Benghazi-based U.S. Consulate there.

“I don’t know what the White House’s problem has been through this whole thing,” said Sen. Saxby Chambliss, the vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends.” “Here’s what really concerns me: You’ve got four Americans dead, you’ve got an ambassador, a very important person in any administration, dead — and you don’t have the president out there getting briefed on a regular basis, you don’t have the president informing the public about what happened to four key Americans.”

The Georgia Republican’s comments came a day after a report from Reuters indicated that White House and State Department officials “were advised two hours after attackers assaulted the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi on Sept. 11 that an Islamic militant group had claimed credit for the attack,” according to official emails.

The question of when the Obama administration acknowledged that the attacks in Benghazi resulted from terrorism, rather than from “spontaneous” protests in response to an anti-Islam video, has been a point of contention between Republicans and Democrats for weeks, hitting a boiling point during the second presidential debate.

When asked whether he would pursue hearings on Libya as vice chairman of the select committee, Chambliss said, “we are,” adding that he and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who chairs the committee, have had “a couple of conversations about this.”

“I told her, I said I think we need to have an open hearing — which is unusual for us, most of ours are classified — but we need to have an open hearing, we need to get the intelligence officials in and just let them lay it out there,” Chambliss said. “This thing is getting more and more traction, more and more legs, and it’s getting uglier every day. And I think the thing we need to do is be honest with the American people — and say, here’s what we knew, here’s when we knew it, here’s what the president knew and when the president knew it.”

Three members of the Senate Armed Services Committee sent a letter to President Barack Obama Wednesday in the wake of the report, writing that “the American people deserve answers” to myriad questions surrounding the Benghazi attacks, and the administration’s response in the days and weeks after the Sept. 11 violence in Libya.

These emails make clear that your Administration knew within two hours of the attack that it was a terrorist act and that Ansar al-Sharia, a Libyan militant group with links to Al-Qaeda, had claimed responsibility for it,” wrote Sens. John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Kelly Ayotte. “This latest revelation only adds to the confusion surrounding what you and your Administration knew about the attacks in Benghazi, when you knew it, and why you responded to those tragic events in the ways that you did.”

McCain (R-Ariz.), Graham (R-S.C.) and Ayotte (R-N.H.) have been especially vocal critics of the administration’s handling of Libya, making the rounds for weeks on morning talk shows and issuing statements demanding answers.

“We believe the American people deserve answers to these and other questions that you and your Administration still have not adequately answered,” they wrote.

Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, argued Wednesday that there were consequences to erroneously blaming the anti-Islam video for the attacks in Benghazi.

“And why this is important — not because who did what, when, is a problem here,” Rogers said on CNN’s “Starting Point.” “It’s about the fact that decisions were made, big policy decisions, including elevating the video that, if you…read those e-mails, nothing about the video, it elevated the video and actually caused more protests across the Middle East.”

He referenced protests that occurred in places like Tunisia in the days after the Benghazi attacks.

“What I believe happened…is that somebody saw something that they thought was the way that they wanted to talk about it, versus what the facts on the ground were,” Rogers said. “Because, think about it, even when that narrative was starting to develop, ‘Oh, this was spontaneous, it wasn’t planned, it wasn’t really a terrorist attack,’ on Sept. 13, we had another jihadist attack on an embassy in Tunisia….So you see this pattern of activity; it’s really hard to come to this conclusion that was just spontaneous, and just kind of happened. So that’s what we’re trying to figure out.”

Hillary Clinton… tap dancing and trying to save her political future said that the Republicans are cherry picking emails.  Read more at: Hillary Clinton urges caution on newly released emails detailing Libya attack

People in the know, people who were paying attention or just have good instincts, and most in the intelligence committee knew from day… no, moment one, that Benghazi was a terrorist attack and that Ambassador Stevens and the other men killed there were worried about their lives because of lack of security.  And nobody believed that the Benghazi attacks we spontaneous or had anything to do with an amateur hardly watched video.  There is no doubt much more to this cover-up and and what they are covering up and it will no doubt be long after the election before we get the details, if ever.  But Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney was right in his initial assessment, yet the media allowed the Team Obama demonize him.  Wake-up America… vote Romney-Ryan on November 6th. Team Obama is doing everything possible to keep Benghazigate from unraveling before the Election.

PALIN SLAMS GOP PRESIDENTIAL FIELD: ‘THEY DON’T HAVE A RECORD TO STAND ON’

The ever-elusive Sarah Palin is at it again. Following last night’s CNN/Tea Party Express GOP debate, the former Alaska governor launched attacks on a good portion of the Republican presidential field — a move that could further fuel speculation that she is looking to take a last-minute jump into presidential campaign waters.

Palin’s complaints about the candidates are plentiful. To begin, she feels they haven’t properly touched upon debt or deficit spending. Because of what she sees as a lack of focus in this area, she says, “they don’t have a record to stand on.”

Then there’s Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s HPV drama, which Palin also commented on. The Hill has more:

“I knew there was something to it,” Palin said of learning while she was Alaska’s governor that her Texas counterpart had given the go-ahead to the vaccine. “Now we’re finding that now, yea, something was up with that issue. It was an illustration or bit of evidence of some crony capitalism.”

Here Palin is referring to Rep. Michele Bachmann’s charge that Perry allowed a law mandating that young girls get the HPV shot because of a $5,000 campaign donation and a relationship he had with a former chief of staff.

Despite uttering these negative views, she did commend Bachmann for her willingness to call out fellow Republicans. Additionally, she called former House Speaker Newt Gingrich “bold” for addressing government waste and dubbed businessman Herman Cain’s private sector background “great.”

Watch her make these comments on Fox News’ “On the Record” with Greta Van Susteren, below:

Video: Palin on CNN/Tea Party Debate With Greta On The Record

While Palin still refuses to declare whether or not she’ll seek the American presidency, she’s “getting kind a kick” out of the way in which the candidates are responding to her. According to the former vice-presidential nominee, those vying for the GOP nod tend to adopt and then cover whatever topic she’s speaking about.

“I’m still thinking about it,” she said following Monday night’s debate. “I’m not going to let the media tell me, dictate when a drop-dead date should be,” she added.

Thus, the speculation continues.

Palin: Let’s Roll… Will It Be All the Way to the White House?

Sarah Palin announces surprise bus tour… and what a bus. This upcoming week, Memorial Day Weekend, Sarah Palin’s “One Nation” junket may be coming to a city near you. Earlier today, SarahPAC (Palin’s political action committee) posted the following message on its site:

Sarah Palin will embark on a One Nation Tour of historical sites that were key to the formation, survival, and growth of the United States of America. The tour will originate in Washington DC and will proceed north up the east coast. More information will follow. Please follow the tour on SarahPAC.com.

Rather vague, but intriguing none-the-less. The bus she’ll be traveling on (pictured above), includes the words “One Nation Under God, Indivisible, With Liberty & Justice For All.” According to Politico, Palin is scheduled to stop ”…at the Civil War battlefields at Gettysburg and Antietam, and the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia.”

The Huffington Post has more:

Palin will kick things off Sunday by taking part in the “Rolling Thunder” motorcycle ride – comprised mainly of U.S. war veterans from the Vietnam War – that begins at the Pentagon and concludes at the Vietnam Memorial on the National Mall.

Planning for the trip kicked into high gear only a short while ago. Palin has rehired two former advance aides to President George W. Bush, Doug McMarlin and Jason Recher, to plan the trip and execute logistics. The details of where the 2008 vice presidential nominee will go remain fluid, and have been closely held within Palin’s small world of trusted advisers.

This, teamed with the upcoming release of her feature-length film, seems to point to a potential presidential run. Coincidentally, Gallup released results today that show Palin and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney at the head of the Republican pack:

Mitt Romney (17%) and Sarah Palin (15%) now lead a smaller field of potential Republican presidential candidates in rank-and-file Republicans‘ preferences for the party’s 2012 nominee.

Palin also just purchased a new house in North Scottsdale, Arizona so she would have a base in the lower 48 bringing up the question of either a Senate or a Presidential run in 2012.

Then on Greta’s Show last night, her guest Rush Limbaugh when asked who he thought Obama was most afraid of to run against said, “Sarah Palin!”, and that all this negativity about Palin including the myth that she couldn’t win was being put out by the left because they feared her.

Most believe that this bus tour is an exploratory tour before a possible presidential run announcement. If you’d like to see her run and the bus is coming to a city near you, it would be a great Memorial Day Weekend activity.

Multiculturalism

The major members of the EU and Europe, Germany, France and Canada, are now outwardly admitting that multiculturalism is a failure, doesn’t work and threatens the existence of their countries and their way of life.  Rep and Ret Col Allen West agrees 100% while Australian Prime Minister had issued an ultimatum to immigrants.  The question is when will the United States wake up and realize that they have been had by the Progressive globalists, which include radical Islam, using the tools of multiculturalism, political correctness and dumbing down the youth and average populations of all these countries to move us toward a new global order ( or NWO)?

Multiculturalism Has Failed

  By R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. on 2.17.11 @ 6:09AM

WASHINGTON -- Now the French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, has joined the chorus. The other day he said, "My answer is clearly yes, it is a failure." The "it" was multiculturalism, and he was on French national television. In pronouncing multiculturalism defunct, the French president joins German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Australia's ex-prime minister John Howard, Spain's ex-premier Jose Maria Aznar, and, most recently, British Prime Minister David Cameron in heaving a failed policy into history's dustbin. The question is, what will replace it? Or actually another question: how did multiculturalism ever become a policy of these European countries anyway?

"If you come to France, you accept to melt into a single community, which is the national community, and if you do not want to accept that, you cannot be welcome in France," explained Sarkozy. "Of course," he explained, "we must all respect differences, but we do not want…a society where communities coexist side by side." Actually they have not existed side by side in recent years. Certain cultures were deferred to by the Europeans, namely Islam. Others were not. If your culture entertained cannibalism, you could not sit down to a nice leg of neighbor. Yet if your culture was Muslim, and you wanted to arrange a marriage for your daughter, authorities looked the other way. If you were the village atheist, you could not say God is a monstrosity and Allah is an impossibility. That would be a "hate crime," and you would be in hot water. On the other hand, you could say "Allah akbar," and no one was offended other than the village atheist.

Now the European leaders are giving this sort of tolerance of intolerance a second look. Prime Minister Cameron has called for a "more active, more muscular liberalism," one that requires the active promotion of democratic values, the rule of law, freedom of speech, and equal rights. In a recent speech in Munich he argued that, "under the doctrine of state multiculturalism, we have encouraged different cultures to live separate lives, apart from each other and the mainstream." The result is alienation and occasionally jihadism.

So how did the Europeans end up with multiculturalism, a multiculturalism that seems to favor Islam over other cultures? The Germans have outlawed Nazi culture. The Italians are not particularly hospitable to fascism, and as I have already pointed out the French are appalled at cannibalism and do not even have a good word for McDonald's or Kentucky Fried Chicken. I think it started with the way they teach their history. Militarism, colonialism, and racism are all prominent ingredients of European history books, particularly British history. For that matter, American history stresses these ingredients also. I have been reading American college history texts and they present an alarmingly ugly view of the Western past.

By presenting the West as repugnant and the other civilizations as our prey, particularly during colonial days but also in modern times, we encourage such social pathologies as jihadism. President Sarkozy says he is not going to tolerate the kind of fundamentalism in France that leads ultimately to jihadism. How is he going to achieve this without calling for a fundamental reform in how French history is taught?

Then there is another matter. All the aforementioned statesmen and women are democrats and espouse democratic values, but there are fashions of thought in the West that do not like democratic values. For want of a better term, they are fashions of thought that follow political correctness. The politically correct do not like free speech. For that matter, the adherents to political correctness do not like many of the values of the West. What are Mr. Sarkozy and Mr. Cameron going to do about them? They are going to be even trickier to deal with than the practitioners of jihad.

Fla. Congressman West: Multiculturalism Leads to Political Correctness | On the Record

This is a rush transcript from "On the Record," February 14, 2011. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated.

Video:  Rep Allen West at CPAC on Multiculturalism

REP. ALLEN WEST, R-FLA.: I believe that we should celebrate the diversity of the melting pot called America, but never allow multiculturalism to grow on steroids and define itself as making American culture subservient! Because yes, there is a definitive American culture!

GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, FOX NEWS HOST: Florida freshman congressman brings down the house at CPAC with his rousing speech. He probably gave many people in the crowd aching feet because they were standing, they were shouting and cheering for him while he closed out the three-day event. Florida congressman Allen West joins us. Good evening, sir.

WEST: Good evening.

VAN SUSTEREN: Boy, you...

WEST: Good to be here.

VAN SUSTEREN: You brought down the house at CPAC.

WEST: Well, we did a little something. I think that was that buzzer that I had in the seats that I kept popping and...

VAN SUSTEREN: The electric one.

WEST: Yes, the electric one, yes.

VAN SUSTEREN: OK, in the speech (INAUDIBLE) sound we just (INAUDIBLE) you talked about defending definitive American culture against "multiculturalism on steroids." And it's about the same time that Prime Minister Cameron in London was saying essentially the same thing in Germany. What do you mean?

WEST: Well, I think it's important that we recognize that there's an American culture. I mean, there's an opening to everyone to come here to this great land. But we want them to be a part of who we are, not trying to make American culture play second fiddle to them, which I think is what you're seeing in London, in Germany, and France and several other places. So that's critical to the sustainment of this American society.

VAN SUSTEREN: Well, you also got a standing ovation when you said political correctness has no place in our national security strategy. Are you suggesting that multiculturalism is political correctness? And correct me if I'm wrong. And if that is...

WEST: It leads to it. It does lead to it because I think that we are so afraid of, quote, unquote, "offending" people. So you look at the national strategy. It says nothing about Islamic terrorism, nothing about jihadism, Muslim extremism. All of a sudden, we're calling combat operations "overseas contingency operations." Terrorist attacks are now "man-caused disasters." So I think that when you have leadership that is very afraid of saying that you do have a definitive enemy, that you don't want to offend people, then you kind of lead yourself down a rosy path.

VAN SUSTEREN: How do we -- I mean, where do we draw the line or how do you make the determination because one of the things that's also very enriching is learning different cultures and having friends from different backgrounds or anything. Where do you draw the line between sort of the enrichment of different cultures and the multiculturalism?

WEST: Well, I tell you, for instance, you have a multicultural family. My wife was born and raised in Jamaica, and you know, we celebrate her Jamaican culture, but it's very important that our daughters understand that they are part of a greater United States of America and understanding our history but still being respected to their culture.

And so I think that when you look at all of the different people that come here to this great nation, they come to be part of America. But we have to make sure that we are presenting it as such and that we're proud of them coming here and of them participating in what is called the American dream. But you can't sit back and say there is no language that we want to stand for, there is no definitive belief system that we want to stand up and defend. So I think it's not about losing the respect of others, it is about making sure that we don't lose a sense of who we are.

VAN SUSTEREN: All right. You're a freshman congressmen. And a lot of the freshman congressmen are rattling the GOP a little bit over this whole business about budget cuts and how much to slash. What's your view in terms of what to do about the budget?

WEST: Well, it's very simple. When you look at the pledge that they made, it said $100 billion. And it's so important that your credibility is not lost, especially early on. So when they came back to us and they said they want to have a less amount of budget cuts, we said, You can't do that. You made this pledge. You said this is what we're going to go after. And the American people, just the same as Senator John Thune said, it's a spending problem here in Washington, D.C. And you just said, you know, everyone comes up here and says they're going to do this and they're going to do that, and they never do. Well, I think now is the time that we do make that change because you can't tell me what can't be done because I'm not part of a Washington, D.C., establishment. I believe that it can be done.

VAN SUSTEREN: Are your fellow freshmen as sort of passionate about that? Are they going to stand tough with you against sort of the -- the GOP -- like, those who've been here a little bit longer in the House?

WEST: Well, I think it's very important that they do, or else in two years, they'll be going home because they made commitments to the people back in their constituencies, and there's a level of expectation. No one thinks we're going come up here and turn the ship around in the first six months or even a year. But at least we need to start showing the positive indicators that we're not going to fall prey to what you just talked about earlier.

VAN SUSTEREN: So at the end of two years, your first two years -- I assume you'll run -- what do you want to accomplish?

WEST: I want to make sure that we get this fiscal situation under control. I ran on two very basic things, fiscal security and national security. And I think that if we can set the conditions for long-term, sustainable economic growth in this country, we got to make the hard decisions. You're right. We've got to look at the big three entitlement programs.

VAN SUSTEREN: That's not going to be popular.

WEST: Well, you know something? When I was a commander in the Army, there were sometimes you made decisions that weren't popular, but they were based upon the fact you wanted to keep your men alive in combat. So I want to do the things to make sure that the future generations of Americans have the exact same life that I was able to have, that my parents and grandparents left for me.

VAN SUSTEREN: Congressman, thank you. And welcome to Washington.

WEST: Thanks for having me.

VAN SUSTEREN: Nice to see you.

WEST: Absolutely.

The whole  world needs a leader like  this!

 clip_image001
Prime  Minister Julia Gillard -  Australia

Muslims  who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the  government targeted radicals in a bid to head off  potential terror attacks…

Separately, Gillard angered  some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying she  supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.  Quote:

'IMMIGRANTS,  NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT.. Take It Or Leave It. I  am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are  offending some individual or their culture. Since the  terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians. '

'This culture has been developed over two  centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions  of men and women who have sought freedom'

'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish,  Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any  other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of  our society. Learn the language!'

'Most  Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because  Christian men and women, on Christian principles,  founded this nation, and this is clearly documented.  It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of  our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you  consider another part of the world as your new home,  because God is part of our culture.'

'We  will accept your beliefs, and will not question why.  All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and  peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR  COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow  you every opportunity to enjoy all this.  But once you  are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take  advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE  RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If you  aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to  come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country  YOU accepted.'
