Reciprocity with China, and other Communist and Totalitarian nations?

This morning I heard Diane Francis, Editor-at-Large for the National Post (her columns which appear in The Financial Post section) on John Oakley's 640 AM Radio (Toronto) talk about China and other countries taking major pieces of Canadian land, resources, and businesses. And she isn't fond of that with countries that do not allow reciprocity. I agree with her view... and I suppose so does Donald Trump about America, who I heard on a couple of American Talk Radio programs. But he goes even further and if he was President he would put a tariff on Chinese products.

A few days ago I read Diane Francis's piece in the Financial Post, "We need tougher rules on foreign investment" and she made some valid points and explained that a new Canadian foreign investment policy requires four pillars: 1) Reciprocity 2) Resource Protection 3) Reverse Onus 4) Veto for any affected provinces.

The other day, I heard Michael Savage interview Donald Trump who is not pleased with China. Trump was bold and business-like. Actually he sounded like a Commander-In-Chief and does not fear China and a few other nations. The war with Saddam Hussein was not about oil for America. He would even ask the nations that America and allies helped out to pay the bills for the military efforts and equipment, et cetera. Get some of the expenses back from gallivanting sheiks. And I heard him on Sean Hannity show, which you can listen to on the link... Mr. Trump is seriously considering running for President.

Trump and Savage discussed ‘Running the Country Like a Business.’ Trade policies with China were discussed during the show. Trump said, “What China is doing to this country is absolutely a sin…When they manipulate the currency our country cannot compete…The President should cancel the upcoming meeting with China next week…until China stops the manipulation of currency.”

Trump also suggests a tariff on Chinese products by saying, “I would absolutely tax all products coming in from China.” Savage asked, “What tax? What percent?” Trump responded by saying, “25%”. Savage then pointed out the fact that China has already established tariffs on U.S. products.

“Every time this country shows a little strength oil goes up,” noted Trump, “I believe that when oil got to $150 a barrel that’s why we almost hit a depression.” Trump continued his thoughts saying, “I would advise President Obama to cancel the appointment with China’s president until they stop manipulating their currency.” It was interesting to get the thoughts of a person who’s been so successful throughout history. Our economy is certainly impacted by many different factors but it’d probably be worthwhile for Washington to listen to more advice from those who’ve proven they can be successful.

Much like Donald Trump I am fed up with the attitude of the Chinese Communist party, the Chicoms as Rush Limbaugh calls them. Therefore, in my small way I try to avoid buying products from China, if possible. If they reciprocrate as Diane Francis mentioned, maybe, I might reconsider. But then there is Human Rights and the Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo.

Today the Nobel Peace Prize winner reacts to his award, although it was done indirectly, since he is serving an 11-year jail sentence in China. The wife of Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo was given permission to visit her husband in jail today. When Liu Xia talked with her husband about the win, he dedicated the award to the victims who died in the 1989 military action against pro-democracy protesters in the country. His wife sent a message via Twitter saying that her husband had first been told about his win by jail staff the last night.
