Earmark Vote-Trading Will Continue Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) -- chairman of SCF -- offered an amendment to the health care bill this week to stop the practice of using earmarks to buy votes for legislation. Unfortunately, the Senate voted 53-46 to kill DeMint's measure. Every Republican and seven Democrats supported DeMint's measure. One of the seven Democrats who voted to stop earmark vote-trading was none other than Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) who traded his vote on the health care bill for a Nebraska earmark. Not only was Nelson for vote-trading before he was against it, RedState.com reports that Nelson actually voted against DeMint's amendment before he voted for it. Click here to read Sen. DeMint's statement following the vote. |
